Awesome Jason, like Xhefri said earlier these colours are difficult to photo with any certainty but that red does look similar to mine.

I'll check the serial on the pewter one when I get home, can't remember what range it's in, not that they went in order anyway.

I really liked the lipstick red color, but that particular one was a little dinged up. I found a loaded midnight blue one from the same year that was in better shape, and it was really cheap so I put the neck on that and sold the red one. Then I found a Candy Apple Red body that was in really good shape, so I bought that and got rid of the blue one. Now I don't have that either lol.

The serial number on my pewter strat plus starts out with E4673, but like I said, I don't really think they went in order, so one with a higher number could of been made before mine, and vice versa.

Hey JasonSD, always good to see your posts. You are right. When Fender moved to the new Corona plant, I have a feeling decals and left over parts were mixed up! There seems to be no rythmn or reason to the numbering system or even the use of these serial number decals. Good example is seen in 1989 when the new Strat Plus Deluxes came out. Some of them sported E4 serial numbers well after the Standard Plus' were using E8 and E9 serial numbers. Crazy! You come across any new finds lately??

Well, not in the Strat Plus category. The last one I got was the one for $165 that someone painted and put kokopelli decals on.

I did buy a few other things the last few weeks. I got a 1971 Silverface Champ, paid $220 for that, and from that same guy I got a mim telecaster body with everything but the neck and pickups for $15, but that body was painted like crap, and the body was badly modded to fit a 72' custom style pickguard.

And the other day I picked up a fake Chinese Gibson 335. Normally I wouldn't buy something like that, but it was only $80 and I've been looking for something cheap I could keep at work so when it was slow I could play guitar. Thought this fit the bill. It's actually a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be. The guy changed out the tuners to grovers, switched the pickups to some Joe Satriani Dimarzios, and put good pots in it, but did a terrible job rewiring it. The bottom volume knob worked backwards, so when it was on 10 there was no sound, and when it was on 0 it was all the way up. Figured he just wired it on the wrong lugs and would be an easy fix. I pulled out the pots and it was bad. Some of the wires were twisted around the lugs, not even soldered. Others were wrapped in electrical tape, few other things that were bad. So I spent tonight rebuilding the harness, need to test it tomorrow and then put it all back in, which is a pain.

Oh I also bought a Roland JC-77 amp for $40, kept it a few days and then sold it for $220. It was pretty nice, but I already had a fender chorus amp (the M-80) that has good clean sounds like that, and a better distortion on it.

Man great deal on the Champ. I have been looking for one or so somthing similar so I don't gave to drag my bigger amps out when I play with some friends several hours drive from here. You are in a better place to score that kind of stuff than up here in hicksville!

I have looked at my 335 and have told myself that I was so happy I have not had to work on the wiring in a guitar like they. What a pain it looks like! How did you get the pots in and out anyhow????

Yeah easier for me to find stuff like that. There's another SF Champ on my CL right now, same year as mine. The guy is asking $300, which is what the guy selling mine was asking too. It's been up a few weeks already.

Taking the pots out of the 335 isn't too bad, it's getting them back in. I don't know what Gibson uses, but there's videos on youtube of people using string and tying them around the top part of the parts and stringing them thru the holes in the bodies and using that to helpo them guide the pots in place. That's how I do it. It's not to bad if your wiring has some stiffness to it, but not too much. Once you get the first pot in place you want the others to almost line themselves up.
I only had to do all of them one other time, other times I just had to fix one pot or pull out a jack that got pushed in.

Sounds painful! Great score for that guitar though, especially with all the modifications. I like wiring pickguards!!! ;-)

yeah I looked up the Dimarzio pickups and they sell for about $40 used on ebay. I won't have it plugged in while I'm at work though, so I would of preferred the look of some chrome covered pickups.

Nice job where you can play a guitar when you work! (ok we are hijacking the Strat Plus thread!) In my office, right behind me is a 76 Gibson RD Custom and a Line 6 Pod! My escape when under stress! I keep my Strat Plus' out in my guitar room....

My first/only Fender atm is a '95 Strat Plus that I assume is Vintage White (not white enough for Arctic I don't think). I emailed Fender customer relations with the serial to try and verify it isn't just faded (haven't peeked under the pickguard) after almost 20 years. It's new to me, though, I don't even have a week's history with it. GC wanted $900 but I got it for $800 since there was a ding in the finish along the bottom where you rest it on your leg ie can't even see it  A few other little imperfections here and there, but for a nearly 20yo instrument it's in really good shape.

I love having the roller nut, locking tuners, tremsetter, Lace Sensors, and the TBX. I recently lost the lower inlay at the 12th, though you can't really tell because it's still black. Though the other inlays have some sort of opaque stain partially covering them. Still a fine playing/sounding guitar.
