This youtube video is the best instruction I've found on setting up the tremsetter the right way. But beware. The tremsetter is good at doing what it's designed to do (i.e., preventing the detuning problem when you bend strings and generally stabilizing the whole trem system), but the problem is that if you do set it up correctly, you're not able to wobble the bar. You can dive down, and up, but lose the ability to get free travel around the center detent on the tremsetter. In other words, your trem is stabilized at the expense of being able to float the system. I have it on my '89 plus and only realized this problem after setting it up per the above youtube video about a year and a half ago. I'm seriously considering taking it out and just using three springs to float the trem like I do on my other strats. Just my $0.02.

I'm hearing more "leave it out." Thanks for your input everyone. It does not sound like it really adds much. I guess as the old saying goes, "if it aint broke...." The guitar is great as is.

I'm going to put the Tremsetter back in my Cruse Plus. I really like the effect they have. You can bend the nuts off a string and your low E will not drop in pitch, yet you retain all the functionality of the trem, etc.

EDIT: Right - like a subsequent poster states - you loose the Beck "flutter" capability but on the positive side, straight notes loose the flutter component and this creates a less complex note envelope that I prefer.

Here's the install video - easy peasy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvl0fLOzwi8

Here's another plus (pun intended!) for the Tremsetter. Without the Tremsetter, a large amount of the energy that goes into a bend is lost when the bridge dips from increased tension. With the Tremsetter, the bridge does not dip under the additional pressure and bend are easier, better controlled, and more positive... also the non-bent strings remain in tune.

I have a 1989 Start plus. The color is pewter and I have replaced the pickguard a couple of times. First I changed the plain white pickguard with a Fender black pearl and then I changed to a WD Music white pearl. I am thinking of maybe changing it again. Does anyone have any suggestions for what might look really nice. WD Music has some nice guards but the last one was not shielded but I don't know if the foil shielding really makes a difference on the plus.

I think the gray and silver paisley would be killer. I have the same strat and I'm thinking of that.

What kind of fret board is it? I have always liked the Grey body, RW neck/ white pearloid combo....especially on the plus series (drools)

I have exactly what you describe. A pewter body with a rosewood neck and a white pearl pockguard. My pickguard is a brighter white than the Fender white pearloid which is yellowish in color. There is a nice pewter with rosewood neck Plus shown in this thread earlier. That's the way mine used to look.

Man I could shoot myself - I just missed an '88 natural ash plus for $599. All it needed was a spinner on a tuner and a new pickguard! Someone got a sweet deal!

Mate, I have your website in my favs tool bar!! its a killer site!! please post more pics, I love that sonic blue plus you have there. I'd like to see a tele plus on there too! :D I have a question for you if you'd be so kind. My Ultra has a serial# indicating its an '89. these were meant to have started in '90. whats the deal, would this be an early model? or is it another one of those tales you hear about in the 'good old days' with necks lying around for a few months befre being introduced to the body?? the thing is, no other strat had an ebony board... so it would have to have been made for the ultra. Im picking its a very very early example:

I think if you pulled the neck you might find this is a early 1990. E9, N0, and N9 were all used for 1990 as there was the typical production overlap. I would be interested, does yours say "Ultra" on the neck plate? Some of the 1st Ultras issued had that missing.

I have been thinking about starting a Tele Plus page, but have owned so few that I would have to get picts from other sources. Right now, with the exception of 3 guitars, every picture on the site are guitars I own or have owned. I have been undecided if to start using picts from other people.....

I don't suppose you'd be interested in selling your Strat Ultra?
