Hi Blertles

The Charvel is indeed a great guitar, although it’s a bit of a side step to what I usually play. I bought it as a replacement to a white Les Paul Studio which I broke the neck on when I was around 20. From what I can garner from the Interweb its quite rare, US made in the mid-nineties (apparently in the Charvel custom shop). It’s got custom Dimarzio high gain pickups which I’ll be honest aren’t really my cup of tea, hence why I’m selling a Weber 12 inch speaker on e-Bay to cover the cost of a new Seymour Duncan APH-1 for the Neck. It’s got a birds eye maple neck and a full blown Floyd along with a five way pickup selector which I think results in coil splitting. The neck is the best bit about it, sooooo fast with a smooth un-lacquered finish.

I’ve almost sold it a couple of times but it just feels special and its now staying put!

Cheers

Sacha

@sacha

Those Deluxe Pluses deserve a Clapton booster.

In order to install the Clapton mid-boost kit the TBX circuit needs to be rewired for the entire signal, replacing the standard tone pot for the neck pickup.

The bottom tone knob which is originally reserved for the TBX affecting the middle/bridge pickups will act as a master MDX pot.

Of course you can rout the trem cavity for a battery!

Since the Deluxe Pluses feature a bathtub cavity there's no need to rout the body for the "Elite" printed circuit board.

My personal advice is to place the PCB under the control pots.

The Elite Mid Boost circuit will add more depth and serious attitude in your tone.

Thanks Chromeface

Appreciate your input but I'm more than happy with the sound I get from my Deluxes as is, for the heavier stuff I've got a modded Les Paul Standard with Slash sig pups, 500k vol pots and string saver saddles.

Plus, I'm not a huge fan of active circuits!!

Cheers

Sacha

Have you got any coming up next year (wife goes back to work in Jan and my Florida holiday will be paid off, haven't been on holiday for more than a week in 5 years due to mortgage and three kids!). What would a custom built one cost me?

What's your Florida plan??

First time I ever saw this guitar it was sit'in upright real neat and pretty like in Manny's 48th Street's window with it's COA tucked neatly under the strings. 8)

There isn't much in the Fender line that interests me [ I browzed a local GC yesterday and was bored to tears] but I'd swap out my '57VHR for it if I could find a local dealer who had one. Fat chance on that.8)

Hi ZZ Doc

Florida will be three weeks of Orlando parcs, parcs and more parcs with the odd Red Lobster and Outback thrown in for good measure, and of course at least one trip to Guitar Centre, be great if there was an Ultra sitting on the wall waiting for me in there!!!

Also going to do a lot of cloths shopping as its a lot cheaper then over here.

Cheers

Sacha

About five hours north of here. Will be at Disney from Jan 1-3 with the family. If you Google Guitar Center you can find out if there's one close by. Also check out Sam Ash.

Those are the two big boxers in the US. There's still a host of pretty good mom and pops but you have to know your territories.

@ZZDoc

The 35th Anniversary has the active/passive toggle switch of the EC prototypes.

This feature is pretty useful if you ran out of batteries during a gig! :)

Did a bit of investigative work last night on all my guitars in terms of the resistance on the pickups and was fairly surprised. I know that this is only a rough measure with a multimeter on the 20k ohm setting (200k setting needed on the Charvel - see the end of the post) but the results are as follows for my two Plus Deluxes:

1989 Plus Deluxe
Blue - Bridge = 9.28k
Silver - Middle = 6.48k
Silver - Neck = 7.00k

1991 Plus Deluxe
Red - Bridge = 13.58k
Silver - Middle = 6.76k
Blue - Neck = 12.37k

The most interesting one out of all my electrics was my Charvel San dimas, I knew the pickups were hot but the bridge is 25.5k!!

Cheers

Sacha

The bridge pickup is a real screamer.

What I find odd about these readings is the variation on the ohms with the Blue Lace Sensor. they should be around 12.8k. The 9.2k is really low.

Thanks for your input Xhefri, I'll re-check when I get home, I must admit it doesn't push a lot out on the bridge setting (no where near my 91) but it does sound good and is well balanced with the others!
