I am a big fan of the Strat plus (esp. the late 87-93 models). Tell me why you prefer them over any other Fender. Which in particular do you have? I am obsessed with this model and want to read about and see yours. Post pix if you got 'em :D

I'll start. I bought my 1989 Strat plus on I believe 4/26/1999 for a mere $400. I instantly fell in love and knew I had to have it. I had the store hold it for me so I could go to the bank an get cash. I was 18 at the time and my mother's name was on my bank account and I could not pull the cash. A friend of mine later went to the same music store hoping to buy that guitar but it had a reserved tag on it (for me). He is still pissed at me to this day. Anyway I relunctly told the store owner what happened and tearfully left without the guitar. :( I came back a few days later with my dad and to my surprise the guitar was still there. :o I explained to my dad the details of the guitar and that the sticker price of $499 was a great deal. We offered the store $400 and they accepted. FYI, I paid my dad back $200 as he said it was a graduation present. This guitar was number 6 in my collection. I have added many more to my collection and it still stands as my favorite. The neck is perfect. I get every sound I could want from this guitar. It is like a perfectly taylored pair of pants. I have made no modifications to it. It is exactly as I bought it over ten years ago and every time I play it is like falling in love again. I have played a handful of other Strat plus' but none of them felt as good. I do plan on seeking out for as many as I can ranging from 1987-1993. Any way, here it is......

This balck burst is really hard to come by. Look em up on google. not to many of em out there.

I've owned several Plus models over the years, and consider myself an expert on the series and their history. here was my fave out of all of mine, an '91 in black, all stock, with the TBX and Tremsetter. I have since sold it.

I have a Strat Ultra in blue burst that might be the best looking Fender I have. I bought mine about 8 years ago in a vintage guitar store for a grand in mint condition. I must admit that I had never seen one before that day. I had put up a post a month ago on why Fender never produced a classic guitar with humbuckers and stated that if they brought back the Ultra and revamped it with some modern touches and killer pups I think it would be a huge success. That guitar would have all the shredders running out to get one because that guitar is a beast. As far as the original I love it though I am not crazy for lace sensor pups but you can pull a ton of tones out of that guitar and I think that might of been its undoing as it does not have its own signature tone. But it is an ax you can gig with and play five different styles. The quality and workmanship that went into those guitars can only be outdone by the custom shop and not just any custom shop thats how great they are. You dont really see a lot of them up for sale on ebay. The reason for that is I think a lot of guys have them under there bed and dont want to part with them. I would grab another in a minute.

Chanman246, why did you sell it?

ics1974, ask for some more close up pix. $800 is a descent price for this model if it's near mint. The value of these can only go up since they were discontinued.

I don't know what it is about Lace Sensors. People seem to love em or hate em. Personally, I love them. I put a red one in the bridge position of my MIJ jaguar.

I am a little unsure about the wilkinson nut. Are they any good? Are there any issues with them?

You can always switch it out for the LSR rolling nut. The kit Fender sells comes with a special attachment just for this purpose. Mine has it.

@mojo: I sold it because I had to make room for a rare telecaster I was purchasing. wish I still had it. I have also owned an '88 Deluxe in Firestorm (very few deluxe models exist in Friestorm), and a '90 in Blue Burst

There isn't really anything wrong with the wilkinson, its just the LSR is smaller.

I have a 1988 Plus.

Here's the story behind mine. I actually bought a Ibanez 540 Radius from Guitar Center, but I wanted it in blue and they didn't have any. So they told me they could order me from the factory and it would take a few weeks. So I said ok, paid for it, and waiting.......and waited......and waited. I think about a month went by and it didn't arrive, so I went down to find out what was up, while waiting to talk to the sales guy about it, I spotted the Strat Plus and started messing with it and thought it was an awesome guitar. So when the sales guy come over, I told him to cancel the order for the 540 and I'll take the Plus. I already had a Strat, but I just had to have the Plus.

Here's some pics.

My second post and what a joy to find a community as obsessive about the STRAT PLUS as me :D

Here is my '89 Strat Plus that I bought new in the UK (England) in the early ‘90’s (‘91 I think) - nearly 20 years! (doesn't time fly when you are having fun!)

The guitar originally had a WHITE pickguard (I added the pearloid one just over 10 years ago) and it also had the wide Wilkinson nut, which I replaced for a graphite nut – I also changed the saddles for the Graphtech saddles

An AWESOME guitar that has never let me down

I am currently trying to identify the colour - It is basically a really (really really) dark purple color with a sparkle/glitter in the paintwork – at some angles the guitar looks black and others you can really see the purple sparkle deep in the paint

I thought it may be a MIDNIGHT WINE but it is definitely darker and more purple than examples I have seen :?:

I have posted in the "Mike" section to see if he can dig anything up - anyone else have any ideas?

Ics1974 Here is a little tip in case you dont buy on line a lot. Ask if there are any dings, dents, chis, stress cracks in the neck joint, buckle rash and have there been any mods done on the guitar. Now you have your bases covered especially on ebay because you can send it back as coming not as described. The guitar that guy is selling is not a strat ultra. An ultra has a dual red lace sensor in the bridge and also a floyd bridge with no locking nut. That ax is a plus which is in the same family and a great ax. Mojoredfoot or anyone else who wants to check out the king of these guitars go to www.xefriguitars.com-This guy is the guru of all these axes and has a great website that you guys will love plus he will give you wiing schemes and mods and a whole history on this series. And you have to check out his collection.Let me know what you think.

^Jeff, (the guy who has that website) is a friend of mine, and an incredible source of info on the series. he and I must be two of the biggest Plus Series fans out there lol

Also, that color is Midnight Wine, but it looks like it was a heavier coat, or has faded. don't worry, it is legit!

I know this will sound weird to some people, but I prefer that web site over porn....yeah, I have a bad obsession with guitars. Especially the Strat Plus/Ultra.

Boydie, you're my new best friend for sharing the same enthusiasm for Fender's best creation. :D

@Chanman246, Firestorm was the coolest finish Fender ever made! A 1992 tele plus in firestorm slipped through my fingers once. There was a used one at Sam Ash once (I think they were asking like $1800 for it). It was out of my price range and I think I already bought a guitar that year. :x
