I am considering switching out the body on my strat. My current neck has 22 frets, the vintage '57 strats have only 21 frets.

Does anyone know if my current neck will fit on a vintage '57 body? And I mean a clean fit, no adjustments necessary.

Basically will the screw holes match up perfectly.

Possibly one of you have tried this.

Thanks

the extra fret is an extension of the fret board. The scale isnt changed.

If you start mixing brands (like SX or Ibanez necks), then you might have some scale and intonation problems.

I guess Jaguar and Mustang necks are a shorter scale and can't be put on Strat or Jazzmaster bodies ...

It will fit right in the pocket and the screws will line up nicely. Dont forget to put some honey or beeswax on those screws before screwing them down. The wood will swell around the screws for a very tight fit and it will condition the wood over time reducing potential stress, if you pull that neck regularly. And many believe you should alternate tightening the screws down...upper right snug....lower left snug.....upper left snug.....lower right snug.....upper right tight....etc.

But putting a 22 fret neck on the vintage body...doesnt severely affect intonation? Ive never done it, but I thought I recall reading that intonation can be way out of wack. Anybody???

The wax is not realy making the wood swell it is just lubercating the wood against splits. You don't want to do anything to make the wood swell around the neck plate screws because what swells also shrinks over time. If you don't have wax just grab a bar of soap it will work fine.
