Alright fellows, I have been building a house for the past 6 months and will be moving in next week. I am quite certain there will be "some" money left. My gift to myself for completing such a daunting task might be this http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0101580852 Given my budget, around 2K usd, what would you guys go with. I am using this as research, b/c I tend to get tunnel vision on specific items, and not consider everything.
Peace,

That's nice, I've always liked those. Along with the old Showmasters. For me though, if I wanted a "nice" strat, I'd go with a Deluxe MIA. It is a higher end, sophisticated strat, but still has the single coil strat sound. For me, putting humbuckers on it would make it too un-strat-like for me. At that point, I'd just go with a PRS like one of these..

I'd like that humbucker tone better than the fender version myself, and prs still has that thin neck strat-like feel to me. Not the baseball bat attached to heavy box feel of those dreaded Les Pauls.

I might even get a nice acoustic if you don't already have one, like a ..

Taylor 814

or a Breedlove Focus

That's just me though...

I love the guitar you chose, but that would not be the one for me. To me a Strat needs that classic pickguard shape. What I would do: Buy a used MIA Dlx Sunburst for $1200, and a used tabacco-sunburst Gibson Les Paul (Traditional or Classic) for $1500. That would be sweet... but maybe too expensive?

Buy what you like. That guitar is definitely worth the scratch. might not be everyone's first choice as stated above, but you're not buying it for them. Personally I think it looks great. While still traditional enough to be a strat, it is certainly different enough to have it's own character and stand out a bit.

You're brave, if I had just built a house, and spent that kind of money, i would probably be rolling all my pennies, rather than looking for a way to spend 2k more!!! Good luck.

I just saw that strat an 08 mint sell for $1,400 on ebay. If I was not depleted from my GAS attack it would be here with me, it was beautiful. If you want to go with a humbucker sound I would jump on the Dave Murray strat as I finaly heard one and it is killer did you hear me KILLER.

Thanks for the feedback fellas! This REALLY is a tough decision. Just dunno, what to get. I'll be taking a little time from the office to move, so I will take a trip to the bigger shops, as i live in "PO-DUNK, SMALLTOWN", where the only guitars for sale are MIM's and badly treated used gear. I will give some of these (below) a try. Have had a hard time finding the QMT in a shop though.
