Just bought my first American Standard Strat. I was looking at guitar stands online and noticed some of them come with a warning not to use with guitars that have nitrocellulose finishes. How do I know what kind of finish my 2009 American Standard is?

like a paper come with the highway one says ("lacquer finishes: precautions and care"):

"3. Chemical reactions: Use only a non-silicone based guitar polish, and avoid using guitar straps, stands or wall hagngers made from vinyl, plastic, synthetic or surgical rubber tubing, as these materials may react with the lacquer and mar the finish of your instrument."

this thing happens on finish like highway one with his thin nitrocellulose finish or some custom. the new american std. come with urethane finish not nitro.

Hi firsttimestratguy: your American Standard comes with polyurethane on the body and neck. No problem on guitar stands.

If you find any guitar in the "Products" section of this website and click "Specs" it will tell you what the body and neck are finished with.

Cheers - C
