Hey, Im thinking about buying a Fender strat but have no clue which one to purchase. i am thinking of spending about 1800$, so which guitar would be the best for that price. i also wanted to know if anyone had any preferences of a telecaster over a strat, thanks.

For $1800 there sure are a lot of wonderful possibilities...AVRI, Am. Deluxe, artist series, perhaps a used custom shop (perhaps). Only way to know which one specifically is to play em all (Or maybe a holy light will shine down upon the chosen instrument, you never know >_>).

As for Strat vs Tele, that's like asking which supermodel would I prefer, and the answer to that will always be both >_>

Im a beginning player and so far don't have any equipment.

The reason I am looking for such an expensive guitar is that I dont want to have to repurchase guitars along the way as I get better.

I have played the violin and saxaphone and an very good at both. I intend to play rock and heavy metal, such as metallica but also softer music such as the red hot chili peppers.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

For RHCP and Metallica in the same guitar, prob go with a Am Deluxe HSS strat, that way you got the single coil neck and mid (usually the ones John Frusciante favors) and then you got the humbucker to give you your metallica fix.

Hopefully I helped, best of luck finding your axe ^^

Hey skibum, welcome to the forum. The best advice I can give you is to go to your local guitar shop and play a lot of guitars. Play some teles and play some strats. When you decide between the tele and the strat, make sure you play quite a few of the model you have decided on. Some will sing to you, some won't. A good Strat to start with is an American Standard. About a grand out the door. A nice guality instrument that will give you years of playing enjoyment. Hope this helps. 8) Mike

I was thinking the exact same thing...........but for me.

For you, I definitely agree with the others that suggest you try each and every one you can get your hands on.

You don't necessarily need to use a full size humbucker to play rock and metal. I don't. I use Dimarzio vertical humbuckers and they work great. Look at Yngwie. He does it too.

Full size humbuckers ruin the traditional cosmetic look of a Strat. This may not matter to you but to me I would never do that to my Strat. Not to mention you lose clarity and articulation with them.

A vertical humbucker is a great choice.

Well...that would be very logical, but often times buying one instrument be the one and only is far from the truth. You will see that when you get better, your taste for musical instrument will also expand as you will start to search for that elusive tone in your head. You will have what is called G.A.S attacks. Some will have worst than others, but you will.

The very fact that you have asked this question means only one thing, you should buy me the strat of my choice! OK, I vote for a strat, but tele`s certainly have their place. The strat is more versatile and more comfy to play.

I wouldn`t concentrate on the dollar amount as much as finding the right guitar that feels right and sounds right.

I just saw and played a new Custom Shop strat last week in the $2500+ range and you could drive a truck into the deeper side of the neck pocket.I could not believe it once I noticed it.So In that case a $1000 dollar Amer.Standard might have been a better choice. Play a bunch of them and you will know when to buy the right one.
