I just bought the guitar in June 09 and had it fixed a few weeks later. It work fine when I bought it and for a couple weks then the bridge pups just suddenly didn't work and more. Actually you just faintly here it out of the amp.. faintly! They said it was a shorted wire on the bridge pup and fixed but obviously there is something else wrong cause it doesn't work again. So back to Long & McQuads to fix it again. Did I get a lemon???? Anyone else experience something similiar to this on their strats???

Check the wiring yourself under the pick guard for lose wires.

Well I thought of that at first but i don't want to void the warranty or anything, plus they are fixing it for free. When they fixed it the first time they said short wire or possibly have to replace the pup so if it is the pup then they... again... replace it for free. I like free since I bought it new for $956 tax in. I hate friggin spending that kind of money on something that breaks down after a couple weeks.

Oh right, under warranty, let them do it, no sweat. It's either wiring again or a dead pup, they'll know in no time.

Hope you have a backup guitar in the meantime.

Well, I figured let them do it... but for whatever reason I don't really trust them. Ya I have a backup, but it is just an MIM standard... the Roadhouse is an outstanding guitar for under a grand. Seriously the tone of that guitar coupled with my Traynor CV20 is amazing. I considered getting my money back but the git is too nice for me to let go over a bad pup or wiring issue. Hey thx for actually taking the time to respond I'm new here and I appreciate it!

If the shop has another roadhouse in stock perhaps they'll trade you in the name of good customer service :)

And welcome to the forum, most regulars here are very helpful. There will always be someone to offer some advise, no matter what the case is.

I would also ask them for a full length warranty on the replaced pickup in writing if I were you.

Wise advice from martian. Listen go in there on a Monday so they have enough of time ask for the manager ,and hit them with listen guys I am playing a show on the weekend and there is still a problem with the pup so I need your best guy on this as I dont have a back up and you being a musician know how that feels ,so I really need this done right so I can have some peace of mind.Yes it is a bullsh!t story but believe me it should get the job done. And be very confident when you go in and talk.Believe me that should get the job done keep us posted.

Well, I didn't have to wait long for the guitar to be fixed and by the very next day it was done by noon. The thing is though, I have no idea now what to expect from their quality of workmanship. I mean the first time I broguht it in a few weeks ago they said "shorted wire" and replaced the wire. Now the guy said that he "re-sodered the contacts of the pups and pots and cleaned it out." Well... it works but I mean is this really going to be it? I also made contact with fender on it and they somply said that it was an isolated incident and just take it back to the place I bought for service (fixing).

Whatever I'm happy it is fixed and honestly the guitar plays and sounds like heaven.

It probably is an isolated incident.I rarely hear of anyone needing to take a new guitar in.It does happen though.I have had 4 strats to date and play the snot out of them and have never had a problem.I would relax amd enjoy your new guitar.Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn't worry about it.

Admittedly, I am cynical about most so called, "guitar techs", but a shorting pickup is among the most easiest fixes. Based on your history with this pickup (which I'm sure you told them) and asking for the best tech, I can only presume they went the extra distance to ensure that problem wouldn't repeat itself.

FWIW, I had bought a new Strat a few years ago where one of the pickups was intermittent. The problem was, an errant piece of coil wire was bridging across the pickup's two eyelets (the holes where the lead wires are soldered into), causing the problem. I snipped the excess wire and all was well.

Again, I think you'll be fine now so simply ENJOY your new guitar!!!

Don't worry about it. Sounds like the pickup is okay, so it could only be a bad solder or a bad pot. Sounds like the first time they didn't check everything, but this time hopefully it hangs together. Enjoy!
