Hi all,

I've got an American HSS Strat that I am considering installing a Gibson Burstbucker in the Bridge slot. Just need to know if the Burstbucker will physically fit in the existing slot with no problems.

Thanks much!

Yes it will fit. No problems.

The Burstbucker is a bit hot though against stock Fender single coils. Your guitar would be a bit unbalanced. Maybe something a liitle more restrained like a Seymour Duncan 59 or a SD Alnico 2 pro?

Just a thought..

Thanks for pointing that out. Hmmm.... I'll have to give that some thought. Will the Duncan (or any other non-Gibson) have that rootsy/raw tone that a Gibson pickup would?

Good question - if I knew what you meant by a rootsy raw tone.

Slash uses an Alnico 2 humbucker in his Les Paul if that helps..

Anyone?

The burstbuckers are probably more raw sounding than the SD APHIIs. They A2s are quite creamy and smooth. the burstbuckers (non-pro?) should do well.

Thing to note: string spacing. Not really an issue, just that some guitarists are very particular about having the strings line up exactly on the pole pieces. but being a Fender player, I think you don't really bother.

If cost is an issue, I recently picked up a Gibson 490T humbucker for my epiphone. I think they're a bit cheaper, but sound AMAZING!!! They are also Alnico II, and have medium output...I think. I got mine for $20, but I think I got REALLY lucky. You could probably get a used one off Ebay for about $50, while the Burstbuckers are much more.
