If we were really badass it would be no frets. I had a fretless bass, was fun to play once I got used to it. frets are a crutch!!!!!

21……..unless you are playing that high a lot it makes no scene at all for more. Fender don’t change the scale length on their guitars when they add frets over 21. The fret board overhangs the maple neck stretching out over the body/pick guard. That is area that is not affixed to the neck and in my opinion is a potential week spot if it were ever to get caught on something ( and although not scientifically proven may rob sustain and tone) that is for you to deicide! I prefer a 24 fret neck but quite honestly I don’t go past 18/19 or so. I just like a slinkier action on the strings. Fender still uses a longer scale than Gibson but still places the neck pickup in the overtone dead spot where you lose a lot of mid range do to frequencies canceling. That is all right with me as I like the tones from neck pickups…. If I want my bell like cleans I use my bridge pickup. ….

Id say 22 because I use the 22nd fret all the time ...

Yeah, me too. On my 21-fret MIM Std, I am often playing notes at the 22nd fret even though the fret is not there. Any body else do this?
