Hello guys I' Guido from Italy.
I have just send my acustic guitar to buy an electric to play into a DAW .
For htis use I look for Fender Stratocaster Classic '50s o Classic Player '50s.
Between two models there's some differences

No. of Frets 21 Vintage Style Frets
Pickups 3 Vintage Style Single-Coil Strat® Pickups with Staggered, Alnico Magnet Pole Pieces and Aged Covers
Controls Master Volume,
Tone 1. (Neck Pickup),
Tone 2. (Middle Pickup) Pickup Switching 5-
Position Blade:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup
Position 3. Middle Pickup
Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickup
Position 5. Neck Pickup
Bridge Vintage Style Synchronized Tremolo
Machine Heads Fender®/Ping® Vintage Style Tuning Machines Hardware Chrome

Classic Player ‘50s Stratocaster
Fingerboard Maple, 9.5” Radius (241 mm)
No. of Frets 21 Medium Jumbo Frets
Pickups 3 American Vintage Strat® Single-Coil Pickups with Staggered, Alnico 5 Magnet Pole Pieces, Aged Covers and the Middle Pickup Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity for Hum Canceling in the Middle Switch Position
Controls Master Volume,
Tone 1. (Neck Pickup),
Tone 2. (Middle Pickup) Pickup Switching 5-
Position Blade:

Position 3. Middle Pickup

How many differences are between different pickup and first non standard pickup and difference in position 4 selector ?
Have you ever play or hear the sound of both models ?
THanks for you answer

Hello!
Other question: do you think is possible if I want rewire pickup in Classic Player '50s to have a standard switching pick with classic 5 posistion( refer is to 4 pos middle and neck instead of custom bridge and neck ) ?
I think this shouldn't be a problem because other models od Strat have custom pickups like this such Higway One who has standard switch and 5 classic position.
Is this right ?
Bye
Guido

I prefer the classic 50s vintage if you can handle the thicker neck, why mess around with changing the switches guido ? ciao mate.

Hello vinnypop.
My doubt is infact about handle the thicker neck of classic 50s vintage ( 7.25” Radius (184 mm) more curved then modern neck
In this case I look for Classic Player 50s where the neck is "modern style" but switch is custom and 4 position is different.
In case I decide to buy this model I woukd know is is possible to change wiring to have the standard 4 position.
excuse for confusion in my word I have few oppotunities to speak in english, only write on web.

Hello Guido,
I have a classic player 50's and I just love it. I rewired mine to the standard pickup selector. It wasn't that hard at all to do. I had to study the switch configuration to decide how to do the rewire because it doesn't have a regular switch like most strats do. It has a super switch instead. I also made it so the middle pickup is wide open with no tone control. The Jimmy Vaughn strat is wired this way. Like I said if you study the configuration a little bit and take your time you can do it.

Hello EGrier65
Your post is very helpful for me in case I should have problem handle neck and fingerboard of Classic '50s.
A good thing should be play both model at the same time to hear the sound and playability , because I shouldn't want to buy a Classic '50s and change pickup, for example, in a few time when if i have purchased Classic '50s their pickup was Ok for me.
At the end of month I call my dealr and ask him if possible to see both model in the same time.
Bye
Guido

I suggest the 50's Player as it's the the Improved version of the 50's Classic...
I wont get into it but thats my suggestion so it's all on you but it's very true that you need to road test any guitar your interested in... :D

I had my CP50's with the neck, bridge setup for about 3 months after I got it. I just could not decide if I liked the sound or not. I thought well I will change it to the standard wiring and if I didn't like it I would just switch it back. Well, I'm not going to. I like it alot more this way. I agree with ClassicRock92 though. You should play each one to see which feels and sounds better to YOU. Don't take someone else's word on which one to get only you can tell. What may feel good to one person may not feel good to you. If you do decide to go with the classic player and want to rewire it, we will be more than happy to help you get the job done. :)

you're right EGrier65, the thing is play both at the same time and after decide.
play instrument at home examine sound with attention expecially in clean sound or crunch on blues and after decide if necessary to change someone.
After tryimg maybe will be possible to upgrade pickup with other such Texas Special, Fat '50, Vintage Noisless.....
I'm waitng my dealer open after holiday and instrument are available .
Now I'm starting to try with a 70-80's Telecaster original USA ( unfortunately it has some problem expecially in electronics part) an old Digiech GSP-2101 studio tube preamp-processor.
If it's I think I'll buy it.
bye

If you didn't know, the classic player has American 57/62 pickups in it. I really like the sound of them. I play through a Line 6 Pod 2.0 and the 57/62's have a good sound to them. But yes you can upgrade the pickups to anything you like.

I came real close recently to trading for a Classic players Strat ..They have the 57/62 pickups which are just killer ...But the main reason i favor it over the classiv 50 strat is the classic player has the modern neck and frets...

Im sure i would get used to then neck on the classic 50's ..But out of the door the Classic player strat is what im used to..As far as tone they are pretty similar ..Like many others have said the neck is the main difference so it all has to do with what you are comfortable with...

I can't see you going wrong with either of them as they are both excellent Fender Strats...

I just was looking over the specs on the classic players start ..I think if i would have traded for this guitar i would have had to change the wiring also ..I have always liked the sound of the neck and mid together..

Hello Invader.CC .
Soyou say that are little difference beetwe pickup of two models ?
Many people on web more like sound of '57/'62 then the other vintage pickup, because it's the same in the '57 reissue.
But maybe it's true the great difference is the neck and fretboard, but I don't play on vintage neck nad I don't know that I handle and it would be playable confortably so I must play on it to have an idea.
I think that if I have doubt also after test I think Classic Player '50s would be a good choice, because modern player are no long used to play with old type of neck more thick and "curved" and with smaller frets.
You must know that I don't play guitar for a long time causa two accident at my left hand so now maybe would be better for me a more confortable neck of Classic Player.
A question what do you tell me about machine head of Classic Player Machine Heads Fender®/Gotoh® Vintage Style Locking Tuning Machines ? Are they better then Machine Heads Fender®/Ping® Vintage Style Tuning Machine especially for bending, use of tremol arm ?
I look forward to test both guitar.
I have a request for you expecially for EGrier65 who use POD:
can you send me a small sample , a few seconds in mp3, of clean and crunch sound with guitar connect directly to a pc-sound-card or a mixing console without using mike ?
Thanks for your answer
Bye
Guido

Guido....The Ping versus Gotoh is a wash they are both excellent tuning machines...I prefer the Gotoh with the locking tuners but im sure the Pings are just as good..I just have more experience with the Gotoh and therefore more comfortable with them..But i do own 1 guitar with Pings on it and have had no problems with it also..Either one will do just fine with tuning and tremolo work..
As far as the 50's Classic having different pups than the Classic player im unsure..I do believe that the classic player has the 57/62 ...After reading over the specs i would assume they are the same pickups ..They are both advertising vintage Staggered Alinco's so i would assume that they are the same..But i would check with some one more knowledgeable than me..

I think that the major difference on the two guitars are the neck ,Fourth position wiring, and tuners..My guess would be that the pick ups and pots are the same...Both guitars are trying to achieve that classic 50's Vibe..You wont go wrong with either model...
