I know everyone here enjoy's a pic or 2. I think we should dedicate a thread to pictures and discussion of your Favorite guitar in your collection.
Most of us may find it hard to decide. I know I do, but if your wife (or mother), kicked you out on the street with only the clothes on your back and 1 guitar, what axe would you take? I will try to get on posting an album of my #1 for your speculation tommorow.

That's a tough decision, even though I only have two Strats! If it were a question of my being thrown out, my first choice would actually be my Condé Hermanos flamenco guitar, but I don't have pictures of that handy — and besides, it probably wouldn't be of much interest here. Sometimes I worry about the sentimental value I attach to that guitar.

Anyway, here's my electric #1:

ha... Well, a nice man at the custom shop beat my guitar up for me, so I've no thrilling (or painful) tales to tell about the faux battle scars! To be honest, I wasn't particularly keen on the idea of a relic guitar — but I didn't let that stop me trying it out, and I was sold literally the moment I picked it up. Of course I played it for quite a while to confirm my initial impression, but it really did fall into place for me as soon as it came off the wall and into my hands. Probably took me an hour or two to get over the whole "but I didn't ding it myself! That's not my arm wear!" thing. I've probably examined the relic treatment with far greater pleasure and interest than I would have taken in marks resulting from my own carelessness, and now I like it.

It's funny now that I look back on it... prior to playing this '66 Time Machine I wouldn't have said I was a great fan of maple fretboards, large headstocks or the colour (teal green). Guess I changed my mind. The neck is particularly nice: it's not quartersawn, but from the player's point of view the grain is as straight and tight as if it were. Since it's a maple cap neck without access to the truss rod from the headstock end, it's reassuring to have such a solid chunk of wood.

I know it's rapidly becoming a cliché to say that owning a relic guitar means you don't have to worry about minor scrapes and dings, but I've found it to be the case. I'm not careless with it, by any means, but I'm relaxed in its presence — and my not-quite-two-year-old son, who loves guitars with a passion normally reserved for Thomas the Tank Engine, can do pretty much what he likes with it without having an apopleptic father descend upon him.

The other guitar in the second picture is off having a Plek treatment at the moment... I'm eager to see if having a guaranteed perfect setup and fret dressing turns it into my #1... :)

Nothing at all special, just a £200 mexican guitar neck from 95 that i've played the hell out of. Half destroyed the body over a long protracted period, nothing aside from the neck is original. Thats on the way out now too.
:(

Yeah, that's the one I wanted to see..! That's an honest guitar. Makes me think of the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where he chooses the "cup of a carpenter" and thus avoids a nasty time-lapse doom.

Were you surprised to discover the location of the seams? Do they glue together big slabs of wood and cut out a dozen bodies, then save the straight ones for sunbursts and make the rest "custom"?

This is my number 1 as it is currently. It is about to have a black humbucker and a white pearloid pick guard put on in the next few weeks.
