i just a\b 'd ( and c d e) a few stratocasters at guit center
pickup shopping as i don't like my scn's

i tried clapton strat (vintage noiseless)
am std with (standard alinco V 's )
lonestar (tex specials)
road worn (tx mx)

2x12 blues reissue same amp settings
i liked the tex mx the best followed
by specials then standards
disappointed with vint noiseless as i am with scns

just my opinion but tex mex had the most personality
the noisless ones just didn't have a real sound to them
what does everybody think

I have both pickups, CS 69 and Tex Mex. From what I hear, the Tex Mex has similar voicing as the CS 69, but much more hotter. Yes, the tex mex is underated IMHO.

From my experience, they have a nice, "zing" to them without losing any of the traditional, single coil tonality. My only knock is that they tend to be more noisy than most Fender single coils and I'm not one to flinch at the whole, single coil, 60 cycle hum thing.

Yes, the tex mex tend to be a little nosier than the CS69, but I think that is given considering that the Tex Mex is a hotter pickup.

In spite of it being hotter, output wise, I personally think it is still disproportionate.

I think I am one of the few here that dropped in Tex Mex as replacements. For me, the Tex Mex line offer great tonal variation with nice cleans and handle gain well. I would get a new Strat before even considering replacing them out of my '04 MIM Std.

I love my Tex Mex set. For me, the only thing better would be a custom wound set.

I also feel, the fact that theyre used on the Road Worns says volumes.

Pickup dislikes and likes is a very subjective game, for sure. I have extensively played the Tex Mex pups in the new Road Worn strats, and have been impressed by them. As far as Fender pups, it's a toss up between Tex Mex and Texas Specials for me. Very respectable strat tone for the money, with the Tex Mex pups.
