Obviously I have a stratocaster, a bullet strat by squire. The guitar started making VERY loud buzzing noises similar to the kind you get when the pickup selector is on a single coil setting but much louder, and it also effects the guitar's sound as well. The sound cuts in and out when the buzz gets loud enough. At first I thought it was the cheap cable I had been using, but when I switched cables the sound remained. Switching amps did not change this either. Only upon changing guitars did the buzz go away, so it has to be something with the guitar, right???

Please help me out. I really know nothing about guitar wiring, or what would cause this. Thank you.

[edit] A forgot to mention bit of information: the buzzing doesn't get better on the in-between settings, but it indeed does when I touch the metal on the cable and gets SLIGHTLY better when I touch the strings.

Does it buzz as bad in the in between settings? If the buzzing goes away in the bridge/middle and neck/middle settings then its simply 60 cycle hum. However from the description you provided in your post I think it may be a loose wire at the input jack, but more likely a grounding issue. Martian, Nikininja, or one of the other Strat masters will be along shortly to accurately diagnose and provide a solution to your problem. I'm just a useless amateur when it comes to trying to diagnose and fix things through the computer screen. Hopefully more qualified help will be along shortly.

Russ

I had the same problem!!! I own a 2008 American Made Strat & a Fender 65 Twin Reverb amp. I had a very loud buzz coming from my guitar, I thought it was the guitar, but I started asking around looking stuff up, and this is what I did and you should try this.

I found out that if the end of your Cable is the color "Silver" it could make a buzz. You should go to a local music shop or Guitar Center and look the cable with the gold ends.

I was hooking my amps outlet chord into a wall out instead of a surge protecter.

I also found out that if you have Cell Phone next to the amp or in your pocket
that could make a buzz noise.

I think the main problem is that you said you have Squier guitar, thoes are made really bad so is the Mexican Made ones they have really bad electronics, you should try to buy a American Made one if you really like the Strat body.

If you have any questions e-mail me at kevguitarist@yahoo.com

Kevin

Is the outlet that your amps were plugged into properly grounded (3 prong outlet)?
