How come Fender and other aftermarket companies can make pearloid pickguards, but nobody makes the matching pearloid knobs, switch knob, trem arm knob, pickup covers????? I know it would be a bit much, but I want to outfit one of my Strats with ALL pearloid plastic trim. Does anybody make pearloid trim??

Hi paisley strat: it can be done.

Surprisingly, there's a whole bunch of craft enthusiasts who make pens. To feed that market many suppliers produce cast blocks of acrylic resin in numerous pearly finishes.

Annoyingly, there is a scripting error on this thread which is preventing me from posting a link (I've reported it to Brad). So to see what I'm talking about visit chestnutproducts.co.uk , choose "Products" and select "Acrylic blanks" from the bottom of the list.

All sorts of weird and wonderful perloid materials there and from other suppliers.

Folks put those blanks on lathes and turn them to make pen barrels. But there's no reason in the world why you couldn't make Strat knobs instead.

In fact, it seems so obvious you'd think someone would be doing it already...

Cheers - C

I've wondered this same thing in the past. Never seen any pearloid other than pickguards and picks. I chalked it up to the pearloid not allowing for the finer details and non-flat shapes required of the other pieces. Celluloid is easy to shape and form, but I guess the pearloid agents relegate it to flatter items only.

May not be the correct answer, but it made me not wonder anymore.
