Hi all,

First post, so first of all, hello

Second - I'm hoping someone out there can help me to identify whether or not a guitar I'm thinking of buying really is a 1988 62 AVRI strat.

Haven't figured out yet how to post photos here, but a similar thread is posted under the same title with photos on strat-talk at: http://www.strat-talk.com/forum/stratoc ... -neck.html.

That said, if anyone can explain to me how to post photos here, will be pleased to do so!

The neck seems to check out and has some names written by the date stamp, but I don't see a similar stamp anywhere in the body, and the 'comfort contour' decal seems to be very oddly positioned (at least angle-wise)... Also, there seems to be some sort of residue inside the body routing (?).

The chap selling the guitar seems genuine, but didn't buy the guitar from new so has limited information. Anyone able to enlighten me here before I GAS?

Many thanks!

H

Upload your photos to photobucket. Hover the cursor over the code that begins .

paste that into your reply on this thread and your image should appear.

It could be. What's the serial number? Pot Codes?

A couple pickups appear to have Custom Shop stickers, so it could have been upgraded at some point.

SN is V037xxx (or so I understand from the vendor).

Unfortunately he hasn't provided any pot codes (and frankly I'm loathe tp bother him again as it has already taken a little while and lots of close-up photos to get to this point!).

Similarly, he has no idea what the CS pickups are. I would suspect Texas Specials, solely because these seem the most common upgrade, but if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

Last, I guess what's really bothering me is the apparent absence of any dating indication on the body.

I know that Fender refer solely to the neck stamp to date an AVRI (other than a '52 Tele). Does this mean, though, that it's reasonable for an AVRI to have no body date stamp???

Many thanks!

Henry

I don't know..sounds fishy to me. Just keep looking around for one, I saw a '92, '62 ri on ebay the other day..

and yes, the contour body is oddly angled..weird.
