Sure. You will need one of these:

Then, if you're guitar isn't routed to accept two humbuckers, you may need to do some routing!

I'm fairly sure that the standards have routing for humbuckers; don't count on it, though.

If not, you could just get a rails type single coil which fits right into the slots of a single coil arrangement, yet can provide the punch of the humbucker.

please bear with me, mark's english isn't so great and i'm trying to help him out a little...
he already has the "faceplate" for the conversion...when he opened up his guitar, however, there are 3 "slots"...he wants to convert them into 2 double humbucker pickups...and it would seem the only way he can do that is by having some of the wood carved out...? can that be done? if so, will it disrupt the integrity of the guitar? and who could he possibly get to do that for him???
my gut feeling is yes, it would be detrimental, and he should leave it in its original condition.
thanks for your patience...

Hi hendrixfan99: I thought that was usually the case these days and told someone so the other day. But it turned out I was wrong: it ain't always so. Nutt'n for it but to look under the pickguard to be sure, apparently.

Hi Mark's loving and English speaking wife, welcome to the Forum (both of you).

Yes, some wood would need to be carved out.
Yes, many would feel that was detrimental to the guitar.
Mark could find a luthier to do that work for him, but it would cost.
Yes, I agree with your gut feeling. Leave it alone.

Two alternatives. First would be hendrixfan99's good suggestion of single-coil sized humbucking pickups. Just for example:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/e ... atocaster/

The Duckbuckers at the bottom of that page are one option amongst very many.

Alternatively, how about a new guitar body?

I don't know where on the planet you are, but that sort of thing is available from many sources in many places.

Some thoughts.

Good luck - C

Hello to mark, and his loving and english speaking wife.

I would ask what you mean when you ask if it will disrupt the integrity of the guitar? If you mean will it change the guitar, and potentially lower it's resale value, i would agree and say yes, but if it is a Standard, then it is a very common model, and this is not a big issue.

if you mean, "Will it destroy the guitar, or change the tone, or make it fall apart?" then I will say no. No one will be able to tell any difference in its primary tones, and if done properly it won't damage the guitar at all. it won't fall apart in your hands or anything like that.

I would suggest taking it to a good guitar tech (or luthier,) if you don't have the confidence to do it yourself.

Depending where you are this operation could end up costing you a fair chunk of change, in which case it might be a better option to pick up a new guitar which suits his needs.
