My #1 strat I bought used and it was sightly modified. It's 1989 Strat Plus. It has Gold/Silver/Blue combo rather than the Blue/Silver/Red or all Gold. The Blue is whiter and not as aged as the others. I have not changed it in the 10 years I've owned it. I love it so much that I'm getting it tattooed on my right arm.

Hey Strat O Cats-

I dropped some Texas Specials in my 2000 MiM and words cant express how happy I am with the tone- Your not going to get the "SRV" sound...thats all his own. What you do get is a throaty nice mid range that takes distortion well and that can bite like a rattle snake. It mixes well with my bands over all sound. You really broaden your sound in all positions.

Tex-Mex are nice too. A little too much high range bite for my taste. My buddy has them in his Tele.

The Freeze

I have a 2007 HWY1 Strat, and did not like the Alnico III's after playing for a month or so.
I put in Seymour Duncan SSL-1's in neck and mid and an SSL-5 in bridge.
This is a recommended set up straight from Duncan's site and I was not disappointed. The SSL-5 is middy and thick and higher output than neck and mid. Sounds like how a strat sounds in my head.
With that said, I put the Alnico III's in my MIM strat, and I was a little too harsh on the Alnico III's. They are fine pickups, just not perfect for my strat sound.

I own 4 Strats here is the pick up combos
#1 Is a 2008 MIM Fat Strat with a lot of custom work.. Sanded and stripped the neck of all finish ..The neck was hand blocked starting with 320 grit and ended with 2800 grit sandpaper....Hand rolled the neck and fret edges..Full fret job..The action is tuned to my specs..The pickups are as follows.
John Suhr V60's in the the neck and mid and a John Suhr SSV+ in the bridge..This is one very nice guitar for less than a $1,000..But i do guitar refinishing and repair for a living otherwise it would have cost a lot more in labor..

#2 1995 Floyd Rose Fat Strat same specs as above except it has Lace sensors Red/Silver dually in the bridge with a purple in the neck emerald in the mid

#3 1989 Strat Ultra bone stock red/silver/blue lace sensors

#4 1973 Bone stock Americian Standard

Number 1 has Distortion in the bridge, an Area '58 in the middle, and a 36th Anniversary P.A.F in the neck.
Number 2 has a Super Distortion 3 in the bridge ( to be replaced with a regular Super D) and Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 in both the mid and neck. If you didn't know already they are all DiMarzio's. I will be selling the Super 3 and the Virtual Vintage's sometime soon.

In my '99-'00 American Standard, I have a SD hot rails in the bridge and 2 dimarzio area 61s in the middle and neck. I've considered changing the hot rails to either a JB jr. or just another area 61--the hot rails can be a bit on the muddy side when played through a clean amp.

My Strat Ultra has its stock Lace Sensors, blue(neck), gold (middle)and 2 red (dually bridge) in a HSS arrangement. I want to change these to all gold or the hot gold Laces.

My 1971 Stratocaster has stock pickups.
