I'm pretty sure they were designed by Lindy Fralin, who is male.

I hear they sound "good."

# 1 Am std - Stock pup (variety of stuff) = being #1
# 2 Mex Std - CS 69 (Hendrix with gain, JM very clean)
# 3 CS by me (Parts caster based on Squier classic vibe) Vintage 50's Alnico 3 single coil (plinky planky instrumentals).

They all sound awesoma and different for different moods/numbers.

I recently took a set of CS 69's out of my #1 and replaced them with Texas specials. Not that there was anything wrong with the 69's, mind you. It just wasnt the sound I was looking for with that guitar. I'm saving the 69's for another project i'll be starting in the next few weeks.

My only Strat, 98' MIM has Vintage Noiseless (with S-1). I actually like them, then again I really covet the EXTREMELY clean and Noiseless sounds.

I am curious over the CS 69's though. I heard they sound somewhat JM clean, which is the type of clean I love. What do you all think?!?

I'm curious to see how many people remove the stock pickups and replace them with an aftermarket pup.

I've replaced them... But not with something aftermarket... I dumped a set of John Mayer Big Dippers in it... Love that combo. Tried everything else. CS69s and Fat 50s. Even SCNs and the Vintage and Hot Noiseless sets. Tried every Kinmans set. Tried some DiMarzios and Duncans. not even Fralins made the cut.

Big Dippers All the way!!!!

Both the 02 AmStd and the 08 HSS are stock. I tried many before I bought either, so not surprising that I've had no urge to change them.

I think they sound good. No, fender does not put fralin's in stock guitars. When I was in the market for pups, I did not know what I wanted, but I knew I did'nt want to degrade and american strat by putting duddy pups in it.
If I had to describe the sound, I would call it creamy, smooth, clear, warm, and overall, just a lot different then the stockers. They are hand wound by a man, who has made a living by making guitars sound good and unique.

Has anybody replaced their stock set with CS 69's, or for that matter any other Fender CS pups? What do you think about these sets?

Nikininja, how do you feel aout the Vintage Noiseless? You do have the mid-boost circuit I presume. Does the Midboost ciruit even out the frequency range(of course with a hump in the mid freq) of these Vintage Noiseless pups or just pump up the mid range? I've been told that without the boost the Vin Noiseless have a harsh treble freq. and little bass. I've never been able to give a good listen without the midboost so I am trusting your scientific aural analysis.

Rick Jones, How do you feel about the Gold Lace sensors. Do they overly accentuate any specifc freq.? How do they do with presenting the entire spectrum of frequencies? I've actually heard they have a vintage sound. It that true?

Thanks for the responses guys.
Russ

Hi Deadhead....I put new CS '69s in my Kickassocaster. Its a 1998 AmStd body, for what that's worth to you.

I truly enjoy these pickups. They are very bright, punchy and spanky. The raised posts on the middle strings gives a little extra "umph" for solos and the classic bluesy covered bending. With a little gain, these pickups can get grungy with the best.

Interesting....I very recently rediscovered Pink Floyd and that awsome Gilmore sound. There's really no other sound like it. Well, on the bridge position, through my Bandmaster Reverb, I can get a reasonable approximation of Gilmores sound. Bright, very "plunky" and full sounding.

Anyway, I like them and recommend them.

Gilmours sound is amazing. When he is using gain- he still sounds as clean as a whistle-
