I'm in a very good mood today because I just recieved my Fender 50th Anniversary American  Deluxe Stratocaster. She is absolutely beautiful, never played and in the original case. I had the serial number checked by Fender prior to purchasing her to make sure she was authentic. Yep, everything checked out and I even got a parts list to double check she's in her original out of the box condition! What a find! I've been playing Strats for 25 years now and have become a true Fender fan. I now have 4 strats and this tops my collection. I play about 4 hours per day during the week and gig on the weekends.

My question is regarding the S-1 switching system. Does anyone know how long the 9v battery is expected to last during play and during standby? Also, if the switch is active, even if I'm not playing, will the battery drain? What are the symptoms of a dying battery?

Any help you could offer would e greatly appreciated!
Thanks Fender community and thanks Fender for making the beautiful Strat that just came into my life!!
Play-on-and-on-and-on!!!!!!

The S1 doesnt use a battery. If your guitar has one fitted its not for the S1 but something else.

If its the 04 guitar i have the same one.

I see, I didn't want to crack her open, I guess I should read the manual and review her parameters. I'd upload a pic, but I'm not sure how. For some reason, I thought the S-1 system was similar to the Clapton boost system that has a battery to power the board. Boy do I feel foolish. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

Cheers,

Thanks very much Nikininja! I appreciate it very much. Your 50th is a beauty also. How long have you had it? Has any of the gold plating worn off? I can't tell from the picture. How often do you play it?

Cheers and thanks again for your kind words!

I dont play it that often, as my favourite guitar is a mexican strat. I bought mine 2nd hand and the trem is pitted, a lot of the pickguard screws are tarnished. When i got the guitar it had suffered a damp environment, the switches and pots were dirty as hell. The neck pocket was filled with Vaseline and the case still stinks of the patchouli oil used to mask the smell. Now i'm going to get loads of flak for this but wd40 sorted all them pots out. Switch cleaner IS the stuff to use i was just too lazy to go buy some. Still the wd40 sorted it and i'm happy.
I'm going to buy some new gold screws and probably a new trem as spares, cos i have started playing the guitar more. Its been out to play all weekend, quite a rarity among my guitars.

How could someone treat a beautiful instrument like that? Sounds like it was in a flood! Glad to hear you've brought it back to life. By the sounds of it, you got a good deal. WD40 huh???? I suppose if it works on automotive electrical components, it can so be used for instrument electronics. Hey, whatever works. All the power to you!

Cheers
