You dont have to ask Jay. Stevie was just one of those players that come around once in a lifetime and by the hours and hours of footage and interviews you can tell what a cool and humble guy he was. Probably the master of muting strings, as most of the time he is ripping through all six strings while playing single note runs and to play just a shuffle correctly like him is no easy task.

That video looks like it came right from the
Live at the El Mocambo in Toronto, CDN DVD.

Great DVD if you don't have it buy it.. one of the earilest good quality recordings of him live.

You should see him do 3rd Stone from the Sun on this DVD!!!

Done by Much Music of City TV...

Everytime I see that vid I'm just blown away at the guys amazing talent and soulful vocals. Glad I was lucky enough to see him a couple times in the late 80's. 8) Mike

Stevie's helped me out quite a bit. Thank God for all the videos and interviews we have of him. I was born in '92 and I would have completely missed out if we didn't.

I have that video on my iPod and I always watch it before a gig. I guess it's like how athletes listen to whatever gets them pumped up before a game.

Thanks for the link, it's all ways fun to crank up some SRV!
My guitar teacher gave me a bootleg of the EL Mocambo and said "Your either going to give it up, or start playing like crazy". I've got eight Strats now, so you can figure that one out on your own.

search for the Rockpalast stuff, that's some great playing too

At one point I'd play Texas Flood everyday for at least three hours, and sometimes I'd just focus on playing one phrase the entire time.

I recall back in 86' I saw Stevie play at the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, CA. Man, they guy took the show. His playing electrified Hollywood that evening.

I also recall, people putting Stevie down back in the early 80s before he did the David Bowie Lets Dance Gig, calling him a Hendrix Wannabe.

It is true what they say, "You don't know what you got till its gone". What big lost.
