Does anyone know what kind of pickups Stevie Ray Vaughan used in "Number 1" and "Lenny"? (His guitars.)

Also, what year model was the black Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix played? I'm going to take a guess and say 68 or 69 ish maybe? Not sure..

Thanks guys.

All guitars had stock pickups in them.SRVs number one had 63s, Lenny had 65s and Jimis was a 68 i believe.

Are you talking about the real thing or the Fender Tribute guitars?

If you're talking about the real thing Number 1 had a '63 body, a '62 neck and stock '59 pickups. Lenny most likely had stock '65s and of course Jimi's guitars would have been stock late 60s pickups.

According to Rene Martinez, number one also had a dummy coil and a push/pull pot in the last tone position to cut down on the hum in addition to the different valued caps to keep the tone close to the original.

Alright, thank ya. I have a 2002 Strat that was my first guitar and is all beat up and stuff, so I wanted to do some experiments with it, put some Fender\Gotoh Vintage tuning keys, some different pickups, and way heavier strings for the heavier kind sound that SRV had.

I have a 62' Strat, but I plan on keeping everything on it original and I plan on keeping guage 10 strings on it with a .011 on the high E.

I have a pair of I think 55 or 57 reissue pickups, should I put that in my 2002 or maybe some Texas Specials or Lindy Franlins? Thanks.

That's interesting, I thought he had 62' neck on a 57' body haha, thanks.

Well, some people would say Texas Specials, some would say 57/62s.Since you already have a 62 ri i would try the Texas Specials. Not because it would give you the SRV sound, but because it would give you something different than what you already have. Two of my guitars have Texas Specials in them and i like the sound. You can play with the height of them and make them sound different. Before you buy them , i would settle on an amp and play it for a while .Most of your sound comes from your amp anyways.

Yeahh, I'm just wondering for future reference. My main priotory is a amp right now, and I went to a blues festival last night, and there were some great guitarist and I looked at the amps they were using, and that really opened my eyes to see that really any Fender all tube amp will be good for blues, and everyone has a different sound.

Yep, imitators are a dime a dozen, but what really sets the good ones apart is they are original and distinctive.Everyone else is forgetable.

Yeah, exactly. I have Texas Specials in one of my Strats and it sounds great. If I tweak my amp I can get in the same ballpark as SRV (tone wise, as far as skill goes give me at least another 20 years lol). I also have .12s on that guitar, which really changes the tone when compared to my other guitars with .11s. The only problem is that I can't do anything on the .12s but sound like a bull in a china shop, no finesse.

You also might want to look into Fender Fat '50s, I hear those are some pretty good sounding pickups.

Well, my 62 has Lindy Fralin Blues specials in them, cause the originals went dead, thats why I have that pair of 62' reissue pickups. So which should I try, Texas specials or put the 62' ri pickups in?
