The appeal for some is that it makes you look like a seasoned player. For others it is having the freedom to bang around your guitar and not having the guilt putting the the first ding on your new guitar.

Some people like the Road Worn look, I do not. However, I am glad the Fender offers this to it's consumers who do like it.

Where are you getting these road worn Strats for $499. Everytime I see one they're around a grand, which I think is a little high for a MiM guitar, even though I'm digging the look.

No??? Well one is an olympic white and the other is a three tone sunburst.

I mean between the pre-made chips on the headstock and the chip you made lol should have made it clear.

To me the appeal is the feel (no rhyme intended). The necks just feel like they were made for you, and even the body feels good. On most "new and shiny" guitars, when you sweat it gets the body all sticky and gross, on a road worn it's not like that.

EXACTLY! I was skeptical of the Tex-Mex pickups at first, but when I went to play one, but I found they sound AWESOME!

Just last week Musician'sfriend.com was selling them for $499. I posted it here the day of the sale. Now, MF is selling the 60s olympic white and three tone sunburst for $749, still cheaper than anywhere else. Go to your local GC to pricematch it, they will.

I agree. $1000 for the roadworn is way steep. That is why I jumped on it when it was half price, infact I grabbed two for the price of one.

well they do have identical pattern where the worn spots are, but the sunburst has finer nicks, dings and checking marks on the finish which is hard to show on the pics due to lighting I assume to make it look more worn than the white one. You really got to see it in person to know what Im taking about. I'm seeing this on the MZ8 roadworns, not on the newer MZ9 serial numbers. The back of the neck is a big difference, the finish on the MZ9 is practially bare, like no finish at all. MZ8 has more of a worn pattern.

I checked out a MIM Std HSS Strat at the local GC yesterday and the rosewood fretboard had a road worn look to it... on close inspection, the edges of the fretboard had lotsa marks on it.... Don't get me wrong -- I like the MIM guitars but this particular one kinda disappointed me... Maybe it's been hanging around GC too long...

Anyway, us old guys like the road worn idea 'cause we probably don't have time to wear down the finish on our nicely finished Strats.

Different strokes for different crazy folks. It doesn't make any sense to me at all, but hey, if you want to look like you've been playing that guitar for years or you just like it for some strange reason I guess that's your business. I don't see the appeal of having someone else put fake scratches and dings and worn spots. JMHO :D :D

Oldguy101 I feel somewhat road worn Myself after at 48years!!!! It sounds to me like someone did a bad fret job to that guitar, I seen that many times.

Well, you can wear really dark sunglasses when you play it, you can be like the stevie wonder or ray charles on guitar.......hmmmm I think Roy Orbison beat you to it. Then nevermind.

thank you, you're too kind. I'll be updating it with videos from my band's latest gig this saturday, so watch out for it. I'll be using my Custom Shop Clapton model, along with my "The Black One" Replica.

I wish I could have bought that RD WN today when I was in GC but I just bought that '89 '62RI, so I'm out of luck for a month or two!
