So I use Fender Pure Nickle 11 gauge, which my area stores never seem to have in stock in that gauge. I called a local chain store to see if they were in stock before I went down, and the guy said no (of course), then told me that fender isnt making strings anymore. Is that true? If so Im screwed.

Don't ever believe anything a guy in a guitar store says. Not once. Ever. Just don't.

Fender still sells Fender-branded strings.

All you had to do was look here:

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... at=strings

It never ceases to astound me, the bold faced lies fools like this continually come up with in order to unload what they do have in stock.

You're probably better off going on line and buying your sets in a 3, 6 or 12 pack discounted quantity.

This may sound weird but I have been able to find Fender strings at "The Source" or "Radio Shack" the music stores around me barely carry any fender branded strings, but The Source has always had them whenever i go looking for them. May be worth a check.

If your local music store doesn't carry Fender strings, then just order online. Often times, you get better deals online anyway if you buy in bulk, like 3+ string packs. Musiciansfriend is a good online place.

They still sell them here. I buy all my strings on-line now, the price is usually cheaper than stores anyways. I have been looking for pure nickel too but these are fine

Who do you think makes and packages Fender strings for them? I never thought much about that

Well, I thought Fender was one of the manufacturers that does indeed make its own strings - isn't that right?

Back in the late '60s they bought up a string making company that went by the name of... V C Squier (in Michigan, if memory serves). Which is how they came by that name, with its odd spelling.

Whether that is still where their strings are made or not - that I don't know. Come to think of it, haven't we heard of the strings now being made in the Mexican plant? Or did I imagine that?

Cheers - C

I buy fender strings in packs of 12. Their £7.99 a set localy, i get a box of 12 sets for £42 quid from hotrox (great shop for valves) 25miles away.

http://hotroxuk.com/

The bottom of the box says made in mexico of us materials. Each pack says made in Mexico of US and German (bullet end only) materials.

Man, that's a lot! Always try to buy from real world shops, but that's why you just have to shop online for some things.

I buy Fender Bullets from StringsDirect for £4.95 a set, or £4.25 for bulk orders:

http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings/ ... er?all=all

Or even better, Rotosounds for £3.50, and that includes a spare top e:

Cute - there was a guy who wondered whether Rotosound Pinks, Yellows, Blues, etc are actually pink, yellow and blue? Now that would be pretty!

Thats why i shop at hotrox and pay £3.50 per set. I believe they do a good deal on delivery, though i just go and buy mine from the shop.
Dunno why but i never got on with roto's. DR make coloured strings, their pricey though.

Yep, DR: I've deliberately avoided ever trying a set of those, for fear of finding that I really love them and so have to go on paying that stupid price! Elixir even worse.

£3.50 for Bullets is better than I'm getting from StringsDirect, isn't it? I'll have to follow up on that - thank you!

Mind you, I thought by now this thread would have filled up with Americans telling us that they pay in dollars what we pay in pounds for strings. Frustrating - but true!

Dunno if you ever tried elixirs, i did and thought they were very bland and lifeless after 3 days. Not toneless like wornout strings just very flat sounding. They do keep that sound for a good 18months though. So if you like em they are a great buy. I found em absolutely useless for anything that requires a subtle or delicate sound.
If DR's perform like them but keep a regular strings sound they should be a great buy. I could even get red ones to go on my red strats. Would look great on your fiesta red strat.
