It looks like a fairly typical HM Strat to me.

Although the pickups were fairly well received there were a few things that kept them from being popular. A small factor was as said above that they were too 'metal' for the Strat crowd, and to 'Strat' for the metal crowd. But the real issues were more profound for shredders. A friend has one.He didn't waste any time getting a different guitar. In fact I remember none of us liking the HM Strat even as much as the Peavey tracer he bought after. And my Ibanez was way beyond it in quality.(Actually ironically, another friends 70's boat anchor Strat made a better shred guitar.)The issue is with the Kahler Spyder bridge.
His neck is a 17" radius(we measured it, he still has it in his collection,) but the bridge is an nonadjustable 20" radius. This was even more profound with the earlier Japanese models the had a 12.5" radius to mismatch the 20" radius bridge.

People seem to like them better now, I think more for the curiosity factor , and the age. But back in my metal days they has a very bad reputation for being poor players. For the same , or less money you could get a much better guitar for metal back then. Part of the reason there are so many of them in such good shape, is that back in the day they didn't get much play.
