Looks like an 80's HM Strat (Heavy Metal) I believe.

Lic. means that Kahler licensed the design from Floyd Rose to recreate the brige for that model guitar.

Those guitars are going anywhere from $200-400 on ebay

At the beginning of the series they were made in Japan and the last couple of years they assembled them in the U.S.

The guitar seems to be all original. The bridge is the original in the sense that it came on the guitar from the factory but its not an Original Floyd Rose bridge. Nothing I would really put any worry in. I have been looking at those recently since they aren't too pricey and they come w/ a floyd. I want to put some of my left over pickups in one

HM Strats were made in Japan first then production moved to the USA halfway through their relatively short run.

They are one the the strats that alway puzzeled me because the value is low in comparison to other MIJ and MIA fenders. I think it is because when people see them they think they are fakes and more difficult to sell then the typical strat.

The 24 frets and basswood body are pretty un-Stratty. Think that is what kind of kills the Showmasters too. At least some of the US HM Strats had really flat radiused fretboards too. Closer to 20" than 12", but I don't think it was a compound radius. I like them. Think the MIJ ones had a 12" radius since they were pretty much an evolution/continuation of the Contemporary Strats.

There are two US made ones on my local CL. $450 and $580. Good $200-300 off the going rate for similar vintage US/MIJ Fender Strats and more inline with the MIJ Squiers.

But when you talk guitars made for shredders from the 80's it is Basswood. The only problem with Basswood is that its soft but with the fillers they use nowdays

I think that was the underlying issue. Fender was trying to attack a market that was already fully entrenched in their Ibanez, Jackson, and Charvel guitars. Too non-Strat for Fender fans and too Strat for the others.

Looking at the FMIC list of guitar makers, I guess Fender won in the end anyways.
