Lately, when I go to plug in my guitar to my amp, I don't get any sound. Sometimes I get a noise, but when I tried today.... nothing!

I'm the youth worship leader at my church, so when I went there the other day to practice, I was having this issue. So then I tried using a different cable then the one I normally use and my guitar could be heard....

So this leads me to believe that it is the cable that is messing it up.

What do you all think the problem is?

If you are having an intermittent problem, specifically no sound at all from the guitar, and the problem goes away when you replace the cable, then it was probably a bad cable.

So, buy a new cable.

By the way, how much are normal guitar to amp cables? The one I have now came with my guitar when I bought it.

They're not too expensive, but don't buy the cheapest ones.

When you plug in you can just tap the tip of your cable(YOU WILL NOT GET A SHOCK) and you will here if you are getting a connection.A lot of cables that come with guitars are not made well. Just go buy a decent cable.

I've tried doing the tapping thing with my cable and I actually do get a sound.... The weird thing is that when I unplug the cable from my guitar or amp (while it's turned on), I don't get the loud static feedback from me pulling out the cable that I used to.....

Cables are dirt simple. They seldom break along the cable length. The open is normally at one end or the other. Take it apart and look at the solder joints. Maybe one is bad.
