Hey everyone !

Does anyone have any tips or advice on increasing the tuning stability when using the stock tuners associated with a 1981 Strat ?? They're the ones with the slot through the top and the hole in the tuning post (down the shaft). I'm sorry if they have a fancy name ! Since there is no way to "lock" the string around the post with the first wind "above", I am guessing that there is not much else to do. I am assuming the string is essentially "locked" as it exits the shaft through the slot, but all of the windings have to be "below" it - a little different than what could be done with the "standard" stock tuning machines with the hole through the post.

Does anyone have any tricks other than retuning after aggressive string bends and tremolo work ??

Thanks !

Tom

Dan Erlewine covers stringing the 'vintage' posts in his book "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great". Check out his method.
