I recently came across a mint Ash Lite body and decided to try to piece together something out of some extra parts I have lying around

Can someone tell me or direct me to a website that would have Fender part numbers for trem pieces for a Korean made Ash Lite Strat? I am looking for the 2 screws that hold the bridge in place (the two screws that go into the bushings inside the top of the body)

I am also trying to figure out if a American strat pick guard will fit the Ash Lite or if I need one specific to this model.

I swear I saw on one of the forums a listing of part numbers for the various pieces of the Ash Lite trem assy, but of course, cannot find it now.

I also found various answers regarding the pick guard. Some say a US pick guard will fit and others say no.

TIA for any help!!!!

Hi drunkengarbagecan: well, I thought I could give you the parts list - but it seems to be missing from the Lite Ash Strat entry on this page (about a third of the way down):

http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_di ... _lists.php

The third column across contains the parts list - but it ain't there for the Lite Ash.

Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to email consumerrelations@fender.com with your questions: they are normally very helpful. I don't know if the trem posts you mention are the same as for an American Strat - so don't take a chance on it.

The pickguard, however, should be the standard format one that you can buy from numerous online suppliers and other places.

BTW: regarding your username, I've never seen a drunken garbage can. I've been drunk in a garbage can many times, of course: but that's a different thing...

Cheers - C

I have a Korean light ash strat that I changed the pickgaurd to a USA version. Actually I changed everything under the pickgaurd too! :) I put Texas specials and replaced all the pots. Changed the knobs to white ones as well......

I liked the black pickguard, but wanted the B/W/B instead of just plain black. It fit fine, but you will need to fudge a couple of the screws as they dont line up exactly. The biggest thing is I had to also shave a little of the pickguard to make it fit around the neck pocket. Take a little off at a time and keep checking. It will fit perfect after that. Here is a before and after photo of mine.

Thanks for those pictures!!!!

I actually HATE the original all black scheme with the natural color, but your black/white is very cool.

When you say "fudge", does that mean I have to drill any extra holes or just that some of the screws are going in at an angle and I need to modify the pickguard.

Also, what brand was your pickguard and was it specific to USA models or more generic?

Reason I am asking, is that I have a stock MIM pickguard that is nowhere close enough to use on the Ash Lite. What confuses me then is that some companies claim their guards work with both MIM and MIA.

Thanks for the info about needing to work the neck area also. One less surprise.

Hi dgc: I'll come back in on that one. Apart from the Squier line, pickguards are supposed to be standardized across the Fender range. But in reality it ain't always so, as kk5fe described. And by the sound of your MIM comparison yours isn't quite standard, either.

So, two ways to proceed. One is to "fudge" it, like kk5fe said.

Personally, I'm kind of uncomfortable with that, so the alternative is to have a pickguard custom cut to match your existing one, and that is not as challenging as it might sound. Take a large enough sheet of paper and trace round your Lite Ash pickguard in dark pencil, including all the screw holes, control and switch holes and pickup cutouts. The more accurately you make that tracing the better.

You then send the drawing to WD Music (wdmusic.com) and they scan it into their CNC machine and cut you out a precise replica. I have used this service for non-standard pickguards and it works excellently. See this page:

http://wdmusic.com/pickguard_tracings.html

You should contact WD Music first to discuss pricing and payment. It will obviously cost more than an off-the-shelf pickguard, but not stupidly much more, and they have a very wide range of pickguard material to choose from.

Looking at kk5fe's pictures I'm presuming that the shaping work he had to do round the neck was because his new pickguard was slightly thicker than the original and wouldn't fit beneath the fingerboard overhang. In that situation the choice is yours whether to modify the pickguard or that overhanging piece of wood itself. You could also bear in mind the thickness of your current pickguard and select a new one made from plastic of similar thickness. WD state the thickness of all their pickguard materials on their website.

Good luck - C

PS I didn't know about Bender the Robot. Now I do: thank you!

Hey Guys.... ok, I suppose "fudge" brought some aweful images of what I did.... It actually wasnt that bad. I used a Fender brand pickgaurd. The screw holes didnt exactly line up, but were close enough to use them without the need to drill new ones. The area around the neck pocket didnt fit right because on USA and I believe MIM necks, part of the fret board hangs over the pickgaurd by a small amount. On this one, it is flush with the end and the shape is a little different. I had to shave a little off to make it fit right. I used a small drum sander on my Dremel tool.

Hope that helps! :)

I actually just lucked out and found a Koa strat pickguard on ebay. Pearl white (kind of what I wanted). Perfect fit as far as the holes.

I am working on piecing together another Ash Lite body, but with rosewood neck. Will probably use the black guard on that one.
