I have a mint fender deluxe subsonic custom shop strat made in corona California and never play it and am considering selling it or trading it in on a normaly tuned, normal scale usa strat.

How much is a mint subsonic worth? If I hang on to it will it go up considerably in value over the years? My local music shop is offering me next to nothing for it in my opinion so dont really want to trade it in.

Help much appreciated

I'll bet its' a really cool esoteric guitar! Figures, music shops always hose you over and never give you close to what the instruments worth... well they do have to make a profit. What did they offer you? Why not post some pics? What are you expecting?

A Sub Sonic is 27 inch scale strat. with a hardtail. You can get them for like 7 bills near mint. I am not sure about Custom shop ones though I have never seen one sold but they did make them.

NEVER SELL YOUR GEAR TO A STORE. If you want to take a beating and give them a third then go ahead. Usualy they like to know what you want then say we will take off X amount with trade in-my $@!. Go sell it on the net and reap all the reward.Right now someone somewhere is looking for that ax and will pay you a fair price.

Thanks for the advice, have advertised it on web and no not ebay as they ripped me off last time and charged me for putting a reserve price on it when the auction had not even ended, no-one had bid on it and it quite clearly stated on their website that you only get charged a reserve price listing fee if the item sells! Stay away from ebay!!!!

Similar experience with eBay. And trying to work with those bozos to get it straitened out was ridiculously tiring.

Hi rocker73, welcome to the Forum.

I've had a bit of a hunt around to see if I could come up with anything useful on pricing.

Factory Subsonics are one thing, but Custom Shop is harder to get a bead on.

I did find this ad, for a "mint" 2000 CS Subsonic:

http://www.performing-musician.com/read ... 6081777960

The gentleman is asking £850, which equates to around $1420 at today's rate. Whether he gets it or not is a different matter.

On this particular unusual kind of product I'm just not sure whether we'd expect the price to be higher or lower across the Atlantic.

Far as waiting goes: unless you plan to wait decades I don't believe it much matters.
If you need the cash now, sell now (or in a year or so when the economy is hopefully looking stronger).

Good luck - C

A customshop subsonic should stay fairly near its new price shouldnt it? Maybe $500 less. After all whilst they may not be the most popular of models they are surely going to have a decent collectability rating just for that reason. Its exactly the same reason a 58 les paul fetches 50 times the price of a 58 strat. There were fewer made.
