Do any other well known guitar players use a scalloped fretboard like the one on Malmsteen's Strat?

Thanks.

Ritchie Blackmore has been known to use a partially scalloped board. I believe there are a couple of others but I don't think they are as well known as Malmsteen.

George Lynch uses scalloped boards om many of his guitars And used them almost exclusively throughout the 80’s
Steve Vai and Herman Li both uses a partial scallop on the highest 4 frets only and Richie Blackmore uses a graduated scallop on his guitar. Shallowest on the top of neck and deeper to the full scallop by the time it reaches the high E string… I remember seeing Vito Bratta (White Lion) using then a few times. I know there were a ton of players in the 80’s that used them I just cant seem to remember who at this point……I guess that means I had way to much fun back then. Or just getting old; one of the two.

Just curious as to where you got the info that lynch used scalloped necks? I am a serious fan and I have seen him perform 5 or 6 times (3 times not more than 10' away), have numerous articles and pictures, instructional videos, etc. I have never seen a scalloped neck in his guitar collection or any of the guitars he has used live. George has a very heavy handed playing style and would be going sharp on everything. If you have any articles or pictures with a scalloped neck I would love to see it. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not calling you out or anything. :D

At the risk of wading in, a quick Google search revealed this:

Quote:
Like most Lynch guitars of that time, this guitar has a single Duncan Distortion pickup and a simple 500K volume pot. The neck was furnished by ESP and has 22 frets. The fretboard is scalloped from the 10th fret on up [emphasis mine].

George is the one that got me interested in scalloped necks…. I remember some time in the late 80’s reading an article in a guitar mag with George Lynch where they were asking him about his scalloped necks and their playability and what not. I had just started playing guitar and was overly intrigued about everything GUITAR. I remember that when I read this I honestly had no idea what scalloping was and since it was the age before the internet I had only to ask others what this meant.. 6 or 8 months later I hooked up with a guitar player who was a huge Malmsteen follower who explained it to me and from that point I have been fascinated with scalloped necks..

George uses a partial scallope from fret 10 -22. he used it primarily on the J-frog skull and bones guitars (The originals not the ESP remakes)
. I have a poster of him in my guitar room with the skull and bones and you can clearly see the scallops on the neck…also have some old guitar mags from way back and you can see it on some of the ESP’s he had as well.

Hard to find too much on the net but here is a sight that talks about it and some pix. Kind of tough to see but you can make them out.. I am not sure where you are located but Skull and bones #1 is on display at the hard rock in California..

Yeah, I checked out the site. It's been so long since I've been there it's totally changed it layout. I did look through all the guitars and you can see a few scalloped ones. For the most part though he had regular fretboards with the 6100 frets on them, we used to call that wire "railroad ties" because it was so tall! Anyway thanks for the info, it's been awhile since I've looked up on George.
