I just got back from my local GC, and they were able to "price guarantee" the $499 price and credited my credit card back $100. Guitarcenter was completely shocked by the low price MF is selling the Road Worn for. They said MF is selling the strat way below cost and don't know how they are going to make any profit for selling it this low.

What is up with this outrageous price??? MF going chapter 11 or what??

I thought Fender told them to cut it out and the deal was off? :?

I'm only $100 shy of being able to afford a Road Worn at that price. That's a bummer, since my parents would probably help me out if it weren't for the fact that my Dad was laid off. :(

Well apparently, MF is not keen too kindly to threats by Fender as they are now offering this deal down $100 less compared just three weeks ago, from $599 now to $499.

What a bargain though. $499 is practically 50% off the original selling price and that is the same price as the standard MIM strat.

That seems about the right price for those guitars. IMO.

I agree.Never felt 949 was a fair price.I played quite a few of them and the fret sprout was bad and one of them had a warped pick gard that was so bad , it lifted the bridge pickup so it was almost touching the strings and you could see into the body cavity.I bought an American Standard for 850 in Feb.

That's the second time MF has had a Fender day, American Musical did one last weekend I think. Save your money for Labor Day weekend, you know there will be big sales that week.

Actually, MF has been having Fender Friday Specials for the last two months now. I think, they will continue it until the end of summer. One time they had the Super Champ XD for $199.

Yeah, with the rebates on Am Stds ending September 15, Labor Day weekend would be a great weekend for them to have a mega-deal on Am Stds.....

Yea, I would like to see the American Standard to be less than $1000 again. I wonder how well the rebate did. Two years ago, I got a black American Standard for $550 with HSC from GC.

It is good buisness. As a good sale brings in a lot of buyers who also buy other items and dont worry about profit they are making plenty.

No they're not. They're owned by Guitar Center just as Music 123.com is.
So how much profit are they getting on each sale of these road worn guitars? The list price for these guitars is about $1100, and they are normally selling them for $949. Just three weeks ago, they were selling them for $599 and just yesterday for $499. So how much is Guitarcenter is actually getting these guitars for to sell them for more than 50% off the list price?

It makes me wonder if the 949 price they originally were was a test to see if they could sell the AS for 1200.Since initially they ( the RW ) flew off the shelves when they first came out , i think Fender thought the price hike was ok.I know the RW has lost a little steam and much of what was marked up has sat there.I think partly because of the economy, but i think alot of people are unwilling to pay 949 for the RW.But even the RI amps arent really moving and so now they are bringing on the rebates.
