I have scn's on 3 of my guitars and suffer non of the symptoms you state.

Perhaps its those elixir strings. They do last a while but i found about 3 days in they give a very flat response, kind of no life but not quite and stay like that until you get bored and change them. Worth trying a different brand maybe? Your choice i found elixirs only any good for metal and loadsa gain sounds. Basicaly anything that didnt require a good natural sound but used a lot of effects.
Other than that i'd look to my leads, number of pedals (a biggie) and amp. Scn's are a very balanced and slightly overwound pickup. I've never struggled on their treble side and i love shed loads of treble in my sound.

I put SCNs in my (later model) Highway, and didn't get on with them I'm afraid. They were flat, characterless and completely uninspiring, no matter how much I tweaked them up and down. Nothing I was able to do managed to bring the guitar to life. Absolutely noise free though, can't deny that..

Followed all the internet debate about different pot values, consulted 2 techs, blah blah, then swapped them out for a Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 pro set. This has transformed the Highway beyond all comparison to what it was before.

One thing you could do is hit the key on your keyboard that says "caps lock" one more time and it will stop doing that.

I have SCN's in my strat and it is definitely on the bright side of the spectrum. There are many factors that go into your over all tone. I don't think the SCNs necessarily are the problem.

Same here. I think that the SCNs must be considered as bright pickups. As a matter of fact I think they should have been producing more bassy frequencies but you can't have it all...

Did you check your guitar with a different amp? Maybe something's wrong with it.
Either that or you have a case of bad wiring. Is the wiring custom or OEM? Check the capacitor or even replace it, just in case. You never know.

I am familiar with the SCNs, I am also familiar with the Elixirs. However, I have NO first hand knowledge of the two together so take what I'm about to say with a, "grain of salt":

I have heard your exact complaint only twice before from two separate players. They had the exact same thing in common as you: They were using the SCNs with Elixirs. Once them switched string brands, their problems disappeared and their whole attitude toward the SCNs changed for the positive.

Again, I have never heard the combination myself but I figured it was worth noting for your evaluation.

I have SCNs and I'm very happy with them.

My SCN's sound really great....in fact I was thinking of putting them in my other two Strats (but dont want them all to sound the same)

I use Ernie Balls strings and and HR Deluxe amp.....I'm not going to say Straings have anything to do with it (I'll leave that for the ones that know more then me....thats about 99% of the people here)

My SCN's sound great, have a sparkly round sound when clean yet can handle as much over drive/distortion as I can through at them. You know, sound or tone preference is a very subjective thing, perhaps you simply don't care for the sound of them. Try switching them out for some pickup you know you'll dig.
