Sure there is still a Fender Japan. Check out their web page.

They are intended for the Japanese market. Very few are brought into the US market by FMIC. I don't know how available CIJ models are in other countries. It probably varies.

You should also check out some of the larger Japanese retailers. They often have special models just like American retailers sometimes do.

Crafted in Japan models still make it here, but they are usually not the strats or telecasters. Rather offset body models by in large make up the majority of CIJ guitars. For example the J. Macsis Jazzmaster and Fender Mustang RI. I imagine as the mexican plant grows and the quality increases these CIJ guitars may very well vanish. There is just less shipping involved, and fender probably rather source guitars closer to home.

Of course that depends on where 'home' is... Unless Mexico step the game up and produce a similar line-up and quality- I dont see CIJ guitars going away in a hurry.

You dont see mexico making a '65 re-issue with a bound fretboard and offering in CAR, or a "54 re-issue, or maybe a '62 with matching headstock?

Personally, I think they have very large boots to fill...

Very cool. I hadn't noticed that '65 model with the bound fretboard!
It's got the small headstock, so I guess it's an early 1965!

Don't let ceri see it

Rock God, You can go on ebay and put in MIJ tele or Strat and you will find a couple of importers that can get you whatever model you want. Thats how I got my 72 thinline years ago before they started making them in Mexico. They have some outrageous models and the quality is top notch.
