Hey everyone, I'm looking at a 1997 American Standard strat and I can't find any specs on it. I'm hoping that someone can give me a little bit more info on the guitar. The main questions I have are:

1) How does this guitar stack up against the current American Standard series (2009) in build quality, tone, etc.?

2) This may be a stupid question but I have to ask: are there any health hazardous materials in this guitar? I've never bought a 12 year old guitar before and I have macs at home not even 9 years old that have been discontinued because of lead solder, mercury, etc. I'm wondering if I have to worry about any components within the guitar (lead solder, toxic finish, etc.) in terms of health, or if they are the same as the current models.

3) What pickups are in this guitar?

Thanks so much for your help!

I have a 1997 American Lonestar Strat. Its a great guitar in every way. Personally, I think the quality was better then than they are now. Hazardous materials, don't know but I owned it for years and I am fine.

Pickups: Since mine is a Lonestar it has a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker in the bridge position and two Texas Specials ahead of it. Yours is likely different.

There are only two ways that guitar could be dangerous. First, there are reports that lightening bursts from the guitar when played by the correct player. You want to watch out for lightening. Second, these guitars have been known to occassionally experience what we call "Sudden Impact Syndrome", a phenomenon where the guitar suddenly smashes into an amplifier or stage set. Very rarely, these SIS guitars suddenly fly out into audiences and can be dangerous. .

Thats too funny Jay  where have you been- have you had the pleasure of meeting our new Vinnypop?
