I was just wondering what the nut of a Fender Strat is made out of?
I guess it depends on the model, so how about the Fender MIM Standard Strats?

I think it's either plastic or synthetic bone.

My 09 MIM looks like synthetic bone. It has the same properties as a bone nut. Definitely not plastic on this puppy.

Synthetic bone on mia and customshop. Bone on masterbuilt and built to order on request.
Plastic on MIM.
[EDIT] Even synthetic bone is going to be some form of plastic.

Ah Mr Walley they will be available shortly. I've just quit smoking and cant concentrate too well at the moment, i also halved my zyban intake to speed the process up a bit. As soon as all thats out the way.I feel a little better each day so it shouldnt be more than a week or two. I'll be back on the case. If the email button in my sig isnt activated i'll be activating it soon. Just press that to get to me.

Seriously considering not accepting payment for nuts, just get folks to make a $10+ donation to Brandon on the lounge forum. A good idea? What does everyone reckon?

Nikki,

I just made a donation, but do not need the Nikkinut (thanks for the consideration, and yes, a very good idea). This is very generous of you to do this for Brandon and I feel this is a worth wild cause. I hope all goes well with this. I would not want this to happen to any family member, but especially my child. My prayers go out to Brandon and family. Sorry I missed the orginal post.

Rkreisher.

I'll send you a couple of regular blanks if you like mate. A slotted and a curved base to cover both eventualities.

That's cool, but not necessary. I just wanted to help that's all.

I reckon you're a very decent guy, is what I reckon.

More power to your elbow, Sir.

BTW: my Lite Ash Tele came with a nut made of a slightly unappealing Tupperwear type white plastic. It now has a very appealing bone nut on it though - doesn't it, Nick?

Some of the higher end strats have the metal LSR Roller nut. Hard to be that for lack-of- wear and stability. Not sure exactly what species of metal it is though, I'm guessing aluminum.
