Hey Vinny and friends,
I thought I would skim through what has transpired on this thread while I have been away. What an interesting read I must admit.

Now I know that Vinny usually gets to choose the topic of the day, since this is his thread and all. I think today, we should show Vinny just how much he has affected our lives!

I'll start...
For one, Vinny has taught me to think twice before ordering vintage guitars on ebay. He has taught me the value of truly knowledgable enthusiasts, and above all, he has taught me humility. I look forward to your rise to stardom Vinny! Noone deserves it more than you.

Hey All,
Well here it is. I travelled from Auckland to Palmerston North. It took about 8hours to get there, and 8hours back. I travelled through Taupo which is where most of these pics are taken of the lake, note in one of the pics where you can see how clear the water is... and also I travelled through the Central Plateu. You will see Desert Road with Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngaruhoe.

This one is for Mondo: this is my surf spot- and also where I like to come and relax. There are two bays, and you will notice the colour of the sand is Black. The main beach is 60km long, and regularly between 4-6ft swell. This beach is on the west coast of Auckland and faces the tasman seaImage

Thankyou fhopkins- it was worth the drive. They dont come that easily down here and you could appreciate the distance I went to just to own it :)

Excellent work... thanks for the beach shot — I'm partial to a bit of wild coastline. 60km is a good length for a beach, I reckon! I live maybe fifteen minutes away from Sydney's finest, but I hardly ever get to go owing to an inconvenient combination of kids' ages (1.5, 11, 13). Hopefully that'll change with time.

Nice ultra! That's got to be about as early as they come... quite a curly top by the looks of it, too. I can't make out the join in the photos — it wouldn't be a one-piece, would it? If so, that's pretty fancy. I've only ever seen that single photo of a one-piece top at Xhefri's site. Very nice, regardless! You'll have to let us know how it compares to its tangerine descendant.

Oh, and good number plate, too... somehow it never crossed my mind that your name might actually be (or bear some resemblance to)... Blertles. Heh. I'll bet "mondo" is taken.

I thought youd like it mate- the black sad is magnetic would you believe- take a magnet there and you get sand stuck to it lol

Neck wise- the ultra is the slimest strat neck Ive ever put my mits on. The top- not soo sure, Its a two piece but very well matched.
I was wondering how thick they made the tops- whether its a veneer or a piece half a cm thick. The age- I think it must be one of the first to roll out. I think very late '89 or early months of '90.
When I got the guitar- it was filthy. Looked like it never had a clean in its life so I cleaned it and it scrubbed up very nicely- these pics dont do any justice at all :)

Hi gang and welcome to manjha at the Vinny Pop club thanks to our good friend Frantic. Woody87 thanks for those kind comments ,yes humility seems to be my bro and sister lol. Cvilleira that goatman sounds horrible my hairs were standing up reading that and welcome back hopkins how are you my friend. Hello to orville niki my aussie mate mondo and blerties fantastic pics and guitar well worth the long drive hope I havent left anyone out hahahhahaa its like the Mickey Mouse club wheres my wand.
Something special happened today. I went in to buy a jack input to solder in a guitar and Mrs Vinny Pop saw this guitar body hanging in the guitar repairers shop. It is an ibanez strat custom body with pic ups and stuff early 80s blond natural maple body really nice and before I left I asked the technitian if it had history and he said it was owned by Kirk Penguily the lead guitarist and sax player of INXS wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, what a bonus. The guitar has an incredible sound, immediately whacked a neck on it. 5 switch with the last 3 giving off a really jazzy bluesy sound very warm and the lead pic up sounds like a seventies strat. It made me smile , its the first famous guitar I have ever owned. I love the stories you guys are coming up with. What have you been up to hopkins I saw you I think on facebook but it says pending friendship or something was that you hopkins or is it someone else lol.
