Blerties I was asked to sell my 68 SG to Angus but refused then me mate dropped it and split the neck I should have sold it to Angus back in 1988 was offered 1000.00. Alan arranged that one for me.

Vinny mate- a movie should be made about you... :D You passed on a sale to Angus Young??? aww man- that was when he played a '62 reissue from Gibson around that time- he may have been hankering for an original as he wont play anything else now. I think he then brought an original '60's and played it for a while, years later he got his own sig. model with the lightning bolt inlays- then changed with standard inlays, Maestro trem and his own doodle art on the headstock and special angus bridge pick-up. But he still prefers his vintage SG's- he doesnt play his signatures that much anymore

Shame you missed out on the neck, vinnypop, that would have been a good price. I don't usually have much luck with hotly-contested items... I do make a habit of looking for ones with poorly chosen keywords, such as "echo" instead of "delay" -- things go better if you're the only bidder!

I found a tasteful picture of my ultra to whet Blertles' appetite:

...shame it's away at the shop for the next few weeks due to a backlog of Plek orders. The frets were crying out for a dressing, and I don't trust myself to carry out that sort of procedure. I'm sure it'll benefit from a bit of an overhaul, anyway, as it's not had much done to it in the past 18 years.

Hi vinnypop... I'm definitely not an expert regarding Fender-Lace Sensors, I just have them on my guitar. They're passive pickups, so not battery powered. They use barium-ferrite magnets rather than aluminium-nickel-cobalt (AlNiCo) and they're mostly noise-free. The magnets don't pull on the strings as much as a regular pickup, so they sound best when they're as close to the strings as possible without having the strings buzz against them.

They come in different "colours"... the writing on the pickup cover (blue, gold or red on an ultra) denotes the flavour of the pickup -- whether it's meant to produce a sound similar to the usual neck, middle or bridge pickups.

The ultra series has a little 3-position toggle switch that allows the player to select between either of the two red sensors in the bridge position, or both in series for a humbucker sound. Either of the two can be used with the neck or middle pickups as well, so there are plenty of options on top of the usual Strat offerings. It'll reproduce traditional Strat tones pretty well, I think -- you'd have to be very fussy to find fault -- but I like it best when it's used for its ultra-ness!

The second tone control is also a little different, and very useful. Set to 5 it's more or less the same as a regular Strat knob on 10... but between 5 and 10 it cuts the middle and bass frequencies, leaving the treble. It really cuts through if you're using the dual sensors in series and you need a little more definition in that humbucker sound. It's not an active treble boost, it just cuts the bass in one direction, treble in the other (like a regular tone knob).

Hm. I hope some of that made sense! In truth I've played my other Strat much more lately, but I'm expecting to get back into the ultra in a big way once it's back from the shop.

Mondo thankyou for that in depth detail and they look and sound hot as you say. Its good to see Fender is keeping up with the latest technology. If you want to hear some cheap 1968 sounds check out my vinnypop youtube page, I have finally recorded a song with Lonely Boy the one and only 1968 Vietnam Strat, it came out quite interesting sound wise, the guitar is difficult to play as the strings on it are really heavy but as I said earlier on in the original 1953 thread... blushes with shame the sound is very 54 ish anyway hope the gang here checks it out, the song is called Oh Babe Please Dont Go thinking about making it my second single off the second album and I have sent it off immediately to Sam Leach. It came out GREAT guys and gals, hope you like it. Its at the top of my channel.

Another Epic and True here we go gang:
In 1988 after a night out at the disco with friends as we were leaving we witnessed a large crowd outside. 6 bikies were kicking and bashing a man. About 100 people watching. I was sickened, I am not huge ok 5ft 8 inches.
I stepped into the arena. '' He has had enough '' Vinny Pop
They all stopped the man gets up runs off, I am left alone with 6 bikies.
'' Little man run away now '' The leader said. '' I will walk but not run '' I replied. I saw my 4 friends watching in horror but no one came to help me. Inside I began to pray as I was like a statue but was prepared to stand my ground against the lions, if I ran I believed they would have got me. The crowd went silent. '' Leave now boy '' he said again. This guy was 6ft 6 inches like a gorilla. '' Ill walk away '' I said again, praying to Jesus inside for help. At that moment a huge black man enters the ring and and tells them '' If you touch this man I will break all your legs'' the leader replies '' Your bluffing '' The crowd went silent I was pushed away by his huge hand ,he looked like Mike Tyson about 6ft tall. I said '' I am not going anywhere. He told all six of them '' I give you ten seconds to leave now''
He started counting and got to 2 seconds. '' Ok it was a misunderstanding ''
The leader said. Big black Joe and him shook hands and then we left, he became my friend and security guard at some concerts, he was also an undercover agent with the police. We stayed in contact for about 5 years after that.

Your life is like a movie Vinnypop. I just got off work and logged on to check out whats been going on in this world. I did listen to Hear the Picture while I read some of the posts. Nice song. I like your style man.
All this talk about getting new guitars and modding guitars (and buying new mattresses) makes me want to start hunting for a new Strat. I've always wanted a Strat in a Sienna Sunburst finish. Maybe I'll look for one of those.

Ah Russ that mattress is a whole bad affair. I was promptly marched at glare point down to the bed shop thismorning. Wallet in hand and heart full of sorrow had to buy a new mattress and one to sleep on whilst the new one is made. To make it worse she wont allow me to shoot the dog. She even refuses to cook the mutt so i can recouperate some of my loss.

I was actually hoping for a pearl of wisdom on the situation from our Vin but he seems to have looked over my plight.

What a sorry animal to get in your way of purchasing a CS Strat Mr. Ninja. That must have been difficult to have parted with that wad of poppy when it could have gone to a much better cause. You could have used that CS Strat to enlighten the world with your music. Well I do believe you have many a beautiful Strat to shower happiness on the world. Just start stuffing that piggy bank again until you get the funds to purchase that CS. Where is our Vin? I was hoping for more stories and some radiated joy from our cosmic friend. By the way, what specs were you looking for in that CS?
