Are there any bad side effects from putting 10's on a Mexican Strat? I just had my daughter's Mexican Telecaster set-up, the guy put 10's on it, and my kid and I love the tone and feel:?:

I used 10s on my Mexican strat for the 2 years I had it ... decent tone, never had a problem. I currently use Ernie Ball 10s on my AmStd strat and likewise, no issues.

I use 10s on all my Teles too. The only two guitars I have 9s on are the HSS Strat and my SG but those are the only ones where I ever attempt any speed. In most cases, I'm going for full tone and a melodic sound and 10s are great for that while still being very playable.

10s are great, I have never snapped a 10 but I snapped about 5 or 6 of the 9s in three months. I am even thinking of going to 11s as I can easily full tone bend in G minor pentatonic position 1.

10s have great tone, feel and sustain IMO.

The 10s, specially with heavy wound strings give you nice fat warm tone. Here is sample, excuse my sloppy playing.

Dumb question, but does Complete Setup =

Set Action
Adjust Neck Relief (truss rod)
Set Intonation
set pickup height

am I leaving anything off?

If those are the correct steps, in what order should this be done?

thanks, - Kong

I would do it in this order:

Adjust Neck Relief (truss rod)
Adjust Bridge Height (for floating 1/8 inch.)
Adjust Action (string height)
Adjust Intonation
Adjust Pickup Height

while we are talking about string gage. without me looking god knows how many old post could some one hel pme with some info.

I started playing guitar In 1970 up til about 1984 around the mid to late 70s i would guess, I started using Ernie Balls .08 I owned a few cheaper guitars in the 80s and 90s but didnt really play that much. Anyhow now that I went out and got my new Strats (I had all of them set up with Ernie Balls .08 extra slinky i think the name is I remember them by the color of the pack Blue) Im not getting the full sound I wanted (yes old age set in). So I was thinking on going to .09s but reading so many people use 10s could anyone let me know why?

I stretch my stings alot (alot of times two at a time)
