What are the best books on the Strat? History, serials, setups, etc.

There are many good ones out there. I have two that I consult periodically
1.The Stratocaster Chronicles. A great book on the history and development of the strat from its begininning to the 21st century.
2. The Fender Stratocaster Handbook by Paul Balmer. More of a tech book with various models and makes of the strat with wiring diagrams, maintenance tips, and setups. A book like this is essential for a do it yourselfer. It's easier than learning the hard way.

+1 on the Chronicles, and don't forget the CD that comes with it. Those 50 sounds of the strat are really great.

Thanks for the suggestions. There is a book on Amazon, "Beginner Intermediate and Advanced Hot Rod Techniques for Guitar: A Wiring Guide for the Fender Stratoccaster." Is the book any good?

Another vote for the Stratocaster Chronicles - this book really has it all. And the enclosed CD of Greg Coch(?) is both funny and informative. If you love Strats, get out there now..

Dave Gilmour's guitar tech has released a book all about DG's iconic 'Manny' black strat, detailing it's history, modifications etc in exhausting detail. If you're into modding, it's the Strat book to have.

My best pick is "Fender, the sound heard around the world" By Richard Smith. I have most of the books mentioned above and find Richards book to be the most accurate and fact filled of all of them. Richard knew Leo personally and had direct access to many of his old files and pictures, so much that he even quotes from old inventory sheets from Dec. 54 about what was in stock and what wasn't. Most of the quotes and information in the other books are taken directly from Richards research.

53 Strat

Still another vote for The Stratocaster Chronicles.

Just understand, the moment it went to print, the book was obsolete, because the Strat is such a dynamic, living concept.

As good as the book is, it could be 3 volumes and still not do justice to the subject.

There is also a nice softbound 40th anniversary and one a bit earlier, if memory serves, both worth owning.

Eeew! 'Have become a Stratocaster geek!

These two definitely get my vote as well.
