Which one is the way to go? They are both in about the same price range. Both have nice features like the nitro finish. Is it anyone that have played both that can tell us about it?

I played both on Saturday, I liked the EJ better, seemed like it was made in the Custom shop, both are very nice, the EJ just felt better and sounded better to me, I am a beginner so take that into account. The EJ also seemed lighter. I don't think you will be disappointed with either. I think that when playing such high quality offerings it comes down to which model "speaks" to you. In the end the 57 just felt like another nice Strat. the EJ felt like something more than just another nice Strat. Good luck with your decisions.

Thank's Ray! The Eric Johnson strat seems to be a real nice guitar according to alot of people on this forum. Not very many seems to have played the Vintage 57 Hotrod. Where I live no local dealer has the 57 so I can't play it. It seems to be a really nice guitar. It has alot of features similar to the EJ. It has the SCN's and they are apparently real nice pickups I heard. Is it any one else that have played the 57 or both that can tell us about it?

I own an EJ, never played a 57. But I love my guitar and would never trade it. I've never felt an electric resonate like ny EJ- it's almost like the guitar is breathing when you play it. Make sure you like the neck on which ever you choose. As you probably know, the EJ neck is pretty tacky (some liken it to a gym floor!) and it takes a while to break it in. I see that as a great challenge! Also, the neck is chunkier than most strats out there. Play a few, have fun, and there are really no wrong choices with those options!

My EJ neck is not tacky, it is shiny compared to most Strats but in no way is it hard to move around on the neck, I also don't consider it "chunky" but then again I am comparing to a ES 335. Compared to the EJ that thing feels like a baseball bat!!

I'll give up my EJ when you can pry it from my cold dead hands!!!

I've never played the '57 Hot Rod and I'm sure it's a nice guitar...but I've never played a strat that compares to the EJ.

I did own a Am. Deluxe for a few years and I'm not as crazy about the SCN pups as I am the EJ pups. I've never played the Dimarzio rails that are on the '57.

Try going to Harmony Central and checking out some reviews, that might help you make a decision.

Hi all,

I own a vintage 57' commemorative edition strat. It has the ''original 57' - 62'' pickups (American vintage pickups) and sounds really great. A bit noisy, but who cares, it's pure vintage tone! The guitar shares a lot of features with the EJ signature strat, like the highly contoured alder body and soft-V maple neck, both with a very thin nitrocellulous lacquer finish, 1-ply 57' style pickguard and vintage hardware. As a matter of fact, the EJ strat was modelled after a 57'strat. However I never played an EJ strat so I can't say how they compare to each other, but personally I wouldn't by a signature guitar; I want my own!

So like I said, I love this guitar, the sound and especially the nitrocellulous lacquer finish wich lets the guitar resonate all over and feels so nice! The neck is very playable, I can even shred my way around, sweep-arpeggio's, legato playing and fast picking runs....(though I usually use my Ibanez S-model for that...ouch, sorry for that) But back of the gain a bit and you're back to the days of golden strat tone!!
Greetz,

Sarasani

I played the EJ strat last week at a guitar center and was some what disapointed. The neck felt like a baseball bat and the pick ups seemed lacking.
