Hey guys I just got done modded my MIM. In doing so I set up the trem to push down only and sit flush with the body rather than float as it was stock. Now my trem bar come awfully close to the body when srewing it in or out. Like maybe a 1/4 inch around the back part of the body and it will actually contact the 2nd tone know ever so slightly. Is this normal? Or do they use a bar with a slightly different angle when they float the trem from the factory? Thanks.

It is normal as the tremolo was designed to float, hence the arm angle was designed with that in mind.

Thanks. So if I were to get another arm say from Callaham or somebody would it provide a little more clearance? It seems like the bar doesn't screw straight down into the block, but actually on a bit of an angle.

Set your bridge the way you like it, then bend your trem to fit your taste. Bends easily. Stick the short section of the trem in a wood padded vise, or just clamp it between a couple boards and bend it by hand. Test it and see how it is and re-bend as needed.

It would be very difficult to screw it up. If you did...and I can't imagine how you would....just get another one and start over.

Bottom line is, there's no law against bending it the way you want it, and it ain't rocket science.

You're welcome.

Buying a Callaham bar is totally unnecessary per what siamese has said.

As to the bar screwing into the block at an angle, this too, is normal.
