I really don't want to be the big Mick Mars apologist here, because I am honestly not an incredibly huge fan of Crue or Mick Mars. HOWEVER ... my wife likes Crue, so we go see them every time they come around. And I will say this about them:
1) Their brand of '80s metal definitely holds up particularly well. They actually had a lot of good songs, that showed -- no kidding -- some artful songwriting chops. The bulk of their setlist is drenched in quality material.
2) Mick Mars is quite a technician. He gets points from me in that he does not tend to overplay, and really lets a groove have a life. Also, his trem use is nothing short of purely stellar, showing incredible control. Seeing him live a bunch of times is what has made me a fan of his. I think that he is a lot better and more tasteful than a lot of people think.

It's sad that some of us appreciate players like Mars but also dig Brad Paisley, John Mcloughlin and Pat Matheney while others can't seem to care about anything outside of their chosen genre. I guess that's what makes America such a great place... The right to dislike, not diversity.. :)

I think he should. Surely a better choice than Billy Corgan IMO. I love Mick. The dudes a riff monster and he has played some sweet Strats over the years. A Mick Mars sig model would definately interest me.

All Fender has to do is figure if there a market for people want a beat up strat that looks like Mick's with a floyd rose and a HSH pickup config with stupid hot pickups (stupid as in how hot they are, not calling hot pickups stupid)?

As for what I think if he "deserves" a sig strat, I personally don't care that much^^
But since I'm in a bad mood I'm gonna say NO >_< Nothing against Mick, I do like the Crue, but NO >_<

Jay, believe it or not, Crue is the sound track of a lot of 80's kids lives. Those people are now doctors, cops, firefighters, phycisists etc... as well as some losers, but no more than any other generation. I'm sure. The look was copied from 70's artists such as Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and tons of punk rock bands. Every generation has had it's angst bands clear back to the blues and including country music.

Your assertion that Motley contributed nothing to music is sorta off base since bands have been copying them for going on 30 years and they are still selling out stadium tours, not county fairs. Mick Mars has probably shown a strat to more sets of eyeballs in the past year than Hendrix did in his short career. If you ask any technically proficient player today who Mick Mars is, they will tell you correctly who he is; a guy that plays all the guitar in a 3 piece band that has a singer and one of the hugest guitar sounds ever heard. He's no Van Halen, but does Ed deserve a 25K guitar? Seriously. A 25k guitar that was originally made out of cast-off parts. That should be a hot discussion topic. How about that 17k Guitar Center SRV strat? Will the extra 16 grand make a player sound like him? If so, I gotta start savin'!

I still dont feel MC has contributed much. To me, to deserve an Artist Series (I actually prefer "signature series" for the name of the line) you need to really need to influence some people. MC influenced a lot of boys into paying for tickets and lots of girls into bed. But I dont think they will ever be listed with Clapton, SRV, Guy or other players who changed the way people think about music and Strats. Just my worthless opinion...[/quote]

big jay in the end of this rant you list only blues guitarists that have there own sigs. motley crue is metal they in fluence metal band they dont have to be blues guitarists just to have there own sig

First off, Joelski....I am one of those '80's kids (class of '86 thanks) turned professional.

And by the way, your rhetorical comments about how sad it is when some "cant seem to care about anything outside their chosen genre" is really pretty weak. You have no idea what musical genres any of us prefer or enjoy. So please spare me your patronizing and condescending remarks about my honest opinion. It's OK if I dont care for Motley Crue.

You are? So did I! It's pretty apparent. Eye shadow, really? Patronizing? Nah. You bet you are! Don't leave out the sold out stadium tour thingy! Me! Me!!! OH GOD! ME!!!!!!! Peace!

First off, Joelski....I am one of those '80's kids (class of '86 thanks) turned professional. I thought Crue was a gimmic band then and I still think they were a gimmic band. In my opinion, Motely Crue couldnt carry Iron Maidens water. But you missunderstood my point and if you go back and read what I wrote, you'd see Im not knocking Mars or Crue. I simply dont think they transformed music enough to warrant special recognition above countless other bands. Frankly Im as surprised Dave Murray has a signature strat. I love Maiden, but I dont think they transformed music either.

Amen to that Jay!!!

Judgmental much? I was criticizing the open dislike vs. open-minded reasoning for not liking a particular artist; in this case Mick Mars. Mick's a pentatonic player, dude. Same mold as Joe Perry or Slash. Think globally. Secondly, there weren't a lot of blues players molding the foundation of the Strat's support in the beginning. Third, I made no pointed comments such as those you've leveled at me. I'm simply saying if the shoe fits...
