Hey all,

Recently I switched my stock MIM pups for Lace Sensor Golds...absolutely love em'. Only problem I'm having is I like to set the pick up height low and when I do this, it feels as if the pups are loose and the screws wiggle a little as if they are loose. Obviously this doesn't happen when I raise the height/tighten the screws. It really doesn't affect tone or all, not rattles or anything...I just don't like the idea of my stuff not fitting snug. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any ideas on a quick fix for this?? Should I just suck it up and play? I'll try to get the pics up as soon as I can figure it out :P . Thanks for any input!

Sensors are not subjected to magnetic string pull so the height is not an issue in that regard. If solely a matter of esthetics I would expect that you might either require a stronger spring or a shim of some kind.

Lace sensors sound best when they're as close as possible to the string, so it may be worth revising your preference for a low-slung pickup. The screws will be tight, then. I've always found that my pick clicks against my middle pickup, but it seems to do it even if I lower that one a bit more than the others. Maybe I rest my right hand in a different position on my Lace-equipped guitar because it has a dual bridge pickup. At least give them a try up as high as they'll go without buzzing against the strings... you can always take them back down...

If the pickup is loose, it's fine.

[quote="mondo500"] I've always found that my pick clicks against my middle pickup.....

.....which is why Robbie Robertson's Strat lacks a center pickup.

Heh... it's the only part of my Ultra that looks its age. I wouldn't go so far as to remove it, though. Maybe I should use it as an excuse to start thinking about a stealth Esquire...

Mondo is correct; the Laces do not excert magnetic pull on the strings, but if you're used to the sound you get, just stretch your pickup springs a bit to put more tension on the loosened screws. My bet is you might like a little hotter output that you can control with the volume knob, or pick attack but everybody's different!

it came with little pieces of rubber tube, rather than the pick up springs....the springs were too short from my last pups, so those didn't work. pictures coming soon, i promise

They use surgical tubing instead of prings and the tubing is only a short piece. If you like them low, get some longer pieces of tubing and you should be good to go.

I think they sound better higher up. They have less of a magnetic field than normal so tehy tend to need to be closer to the strings (at least the golds that I have..) Also do not have the pole pieces that extend from the face of a normal pickup so it will look like the Lace is really high up. It does take some getting used to feelin them with your pick hand.

http://www.xhefriguitars.com/page2.html You can see typical pickup height in pictures...
