I Just Bought A Cream Mexican Strat And It Has What Looks Like A Fixed Tailpiece. Is There Any way to put a whammy bar on it?[/list]

Welcome!

If the back of your guitar has no cutout for springs for the whammy bar system, in other words, it looks like a solid piece of wood, you have what is colloquially called, a "hard tail (or tailed) Strat".

Yes, it can be done but with the expense it would cost from start to finish having it it done right, you could easily buy another Mexican Strat.

If you indeed have a "hard tail" Strat, these are very popular and not in a collector's sense, but are in demand. Your best bet would be offering your guitar's body including hardware (or the whole guitar for that matter) as an even-up trade for a tremolo body including hardware on say, Craig's List, Harmony Central or some place like that. You might even wind up with a few people interested right here.

Actually Thanks for the info but I looked again and can see the hole for the whammy bar. Are there any brands of tremolo that you would reccommend? Im new to Fender so also how do I Know what size whammy to buy? My Strat is a 2004-2005 Model MIM. My rear pickup is a Humbucker. What is that called and is that anything special? I dnt see many like that.

You're quite welcome.

The whammy bar arm for your guitar is readily available. Just go into any Fender dealership and tell them you need a replacement tremolo arm for a MIM Strat. Your best bet is to bring the guitar in with you as many dealerships seem to have a problem getting the size right unless they can match it to the guitar while it is in front of them.

I honestly wouldn't recommend any other tremolo system for your Strat due to the fact that the only ones which would make a dramatic difference will cost you probably as much as you paid for the guitar. In light of this, in my opinion, they are so grossly overpriced, the return doesn't justify the expense.

The pickup configuration in your guitar is not unusual nor special by any means. It is called an, "HSS" Strat. Meaning, humbucker, single (coil), single (coil).

I am for the most part, useless when it comes to appraisals. I simply tell people to check e-Bay's completed auctions because in spite of what some, "Blue Book" or (usually, self-proclaimed) 'expert' says something is worth, e-Bay is the 'real world' of what people are willing to pay for it.

Stratocasters, Stratocasters and more Stratocasters. I buy and sell them like water. So, whatever I would tell you I have today would not be true any longer tomorrow. As of this typing, I run the gamut from a real 62 to a Deluxe Player's Strat. I don't buy them for collectibility. Rather, the ones I choose are because they are superior specimens. And yes, I do all sorts of fun stuff to them all.
