Twelvebar yes thats a trait which is a negative in me which hopefully I have now learnt not to trust anyone selling any guitars I was lucky to get back my money. I dont want anymore guitars I have a lovely 1980 strat custom and I am building another 2 so that will keep me out of trouble for a while.

Hi, Twelvebar... a quick answer to that last question: retail price on an American Standard Strat here is AUD $2100 - $2900 ...you would be able to knock a few hundred off for cash. Japanese Strats can be had for half that price, and more like $700 - $800 secondhand.

At the moment AUD $1000 is equivalent to US $820, so you can see that prices here are quite steep.
Yeah, I work with an Aussie. he's been in Canada for a few years. We've been trying to work out if it is worth it for him to buy a Strat for his brother here and take it back, when he returns in the fall. Not sure what the taxes and excise fees will be though.

Is it cheaper separating the necks from bodies when shipping out of a country tax wise for the buyer or the same.

hehe be careful Vinny, building and customizing guitars can be addictive, you might end up spending more money than you were willing to budget for the Lonely Boy, by the time you are done!!

have fun, keep us appraised.

I would advise that you don't make any repairs or modifications of any kind. You may want to contact Dan Erlewine for restoration/repair info. He certainly seems to get the most positive PR.

Vinny as everyone in guitar repair knows ' if you dont have a go, you'll never learn anything.' To quote Mike Eldred 'Anybody who tears into a guitar for any reason, is ok in my book.
That's how you learn!'

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24914&start=0

I strongly advise modding your guitars but think about it first or you end up doing mods to get round mods you dont like.

A mans got to know his limitations.

Strato
Can you imagine the innovations our Vinny will come up with? He'll likely change guitar as we know it. Any bloke who wants a customshop strat with dream specs, colour and a apparition of the virgin Mary included is going to design something worth having.

Goodmorining Vinny and all :D American Strats here are NZ$2995 new, I brought my strat from a fella in Melbourne who brought them in bulk from a music store in the states, and sold it to me for AU$2000. The same guitar retails here NZ$3899. Id love to get my filthy mits on a japanese fender, but you cannot buy them new here.. which is a crying shame as they make some sexy guitars :P

And the publishing rights to his Beatles art is now US $21,000,000.00 http://tinyurl.com/vpbtl

Should've got it while it was cheap!

OMG!!

I don't even remember what I was searching for when I happened upon this lovely thread. Wow what a read. By about page 5 I had the lil lady make a bag of popcorn and pull up a chair.

this was possibly the most bizarre and strangely entertaining thread I have read on any board ever. I read all 22 pages all the way from start to finish. I think without even blinking lol

I must thank you immensely Sir Vinnypop for my entertainment for the evening :D although I must admit that I strangely feel violated for some reason :P
