Glad you got some reimbursement. Hopefully we were some help in that regard.

Vinny, after reading your posts I can see exactly how you were fooled.
It seems to me you are an all or nothing, deep end of the pool kind of guy.

Now that can be a great trait, but sometimes it will work against you. When buying (especially 2nd hand stuff,) you need to learn how to dial back the excitement a bit, take a few deep breaths and assess the situation. especially when someone makes grand claims. When I was younger I had a roommate that was a used car salesman. He was pretty much all the bad stereotypes rolled into one. he was like that in his home life too, ended up costing me a fortune when he skipped out on bills and disappeared. From exposure to him I learned not to trust anything a seller says or implies without proof. I also think its a good bargaining tool, to appear skeptical and maybe even disinterested when buying.

I don't think you are really stupid, but I kind of think your natural enthusiasm might sometimes make you careless. When your careless, sometimes we do stupid things, that maybe we normally wouldn't do.

I am happy that you got your cash though, and that the lesson here was only a little spanking for the ego, and not a big hole in your bank account.

I wonder if it might be a good idea for you to seek out a good Japanese strat for your next purchase. What is the price comparison to Am. stuff there?

Hi, Twelvebar... a quick answer to that last question: retail price on an American Standard Strat here is AUD $2100 - $2900 ...you would be able to knock a few hundred off for cash. Japanese Strats can be had for half that price, and more like $700 - $800 secondhand.

At the moment AUD $1000 is equivalent to US $820, so you can see that prices here are quite steep.
