Hey guys I am about to wrap up my MIM project (just waiting on tuners) but I am wondering how many trem springs I should use. I see a lot of guys running 5. I am going to set the trem up for push down only as floationg seems like nothing but a headache. I am looking for tuning stabilty and the ability to use the trem some. No Vai antics, but a bit. Thanks.

I setup mine to be flush with the body with the 3 original springs. I never had a problem with tuning. I just brought the outboard ones toward the middle of the claw - /|\

I see no real need to use more then 3. You can get the trem flush to the body perfectly fine with 3. I run two different setups for spring alignment, haven't noticed a difference at all whether I run them /|\ or |/| which ever will do the same thing.
