I have noticed over the years that Fender more than any other guitar company has the most loyal supporters..Most Gibby guys own one Gibson and then other guitars..But with Fender players they normally have 2 or 3 or 4 other Fenders and then another guitar that sits in corner collecting dust..

Myself i own four Strats then a G&L Tele type guitar...To me a G&L is just a hybrid Fender after all they were designed by the same man..I also own a Ibanez Les Paul type guitar ..But i would sell it way before any of the Fenders...

It also seems that a Fender player is much more Knowledgeable about Fender guitars then the average other guitar supporters..Think about the last time you heard an Ibanez owner discussing the merits of one type of Ibanez product over another ..Or arguing which finish is better..The only people that talk about that stuff is Fender owners..

I could be wrong what is your opinion?

I can find some die hard Gibson fans, if you want...

Gibsons are fine guitars, if you are willing to pay way over 1 grand :D

And also, I guess a Fender guitar and its respective sound is more 'modifiable' than its Gibson counterpart.

But I am a die hard fan ever since I laid eyes on one...

I know people that have more Gibby's then Fender's its just that among beginners Fender are more in reach do to price. Because of that Strats are like something else we all have. You can have 3 strats for the price of one low cost Gibson!!!! Only being honest and I love My fender Strats and Tele guitasr My Tele is among one of My favorites.

I have been spending a lot of time on guitar forums for the last 17 months since I really cant play till my hand is fixed. I have learned a lot about what is going on in the guitar world. If you want neutral guitar opinions go to the forums of Harmony Central AND Guitars 101. It is mostly a younger forum and them guys love there axes as much as anyone. The one thing I notice is that they will take a new high end guitar and mod it up right away. These are the 2 best forums to me outside ours. I kind of get a little lost at times as I know Fenders inside and out but it is cool to keep up on new gear. I have only been to the Gibson forum once and although they make a great guitar I have no interest there. Like Dorothy said theres no place like home. And nothing compares to our forum. And I could not argue with a Gibson guy who feels the same but our axes to.

A few years ago, I looked at a few Les Pauls (Gibsons and Epiphones). I would play them but they just never played as nice as my Strats. To me the tone just wasn't enough to take the plunge. Plus, as said earlier the Gibsons cost so damn much.

What about the cost of Fenders? They're just as bad now with the recent price hike in March. An Eric Johnson Strat goes for about the same as a Les Paul Standard. An Yngwie Malmsteen Strat used to be $1300 now it's over $2000. A Mexican Road Worn Strat is close to $1000.

Fender's are just as bad price wise.

The brands I have the most of are Ibanez & Granada-with two each--Granada is a house brand used by various music schools in Canada & perhaps elsewhere--they were made in Japan by Matsumoku (Mostly known for Arias) At least that's where mine were made.

I love my Fender though, and wouldn't mind another one.

How old are those Granadas? Can you post any pictures?

You can make a Strat sort of sound like a LP if you put a Humbucker in it. :D

Fender seems to have more fans because they make a ridiculous amount of various features on the same model in all price ranges. They utilize cheap labor in China, Mexico etc. To meet all price points. Fender has a price to fit most budgets. They have Squires, MIM, MIA.

All Gibsons are made in the US.

Is a Squire Strat the same as a MIM or MIA. Nope. They actually play well, but the quality and components are low end. But some 10 year old can tell his friends he has a Strat so there's another happy customer.

Most people don't buy $6000 Gibsons. You can actually get some models for around the same money as a MIA Strat. Fenders customs shop guitars are up pretty good in price considering you get a bolt together guitar as opposed to hand crafted guitar.

Some people have more Fenders because of the price point. Of the 10 guitars I own, only one from each manufacturer except Gibson only because I wanted a Melody Maker and Fender because I wanted a Tele. Having more than one of the same model seems like a waste to me. Why would I need 5 Strats? The tonal possibilities are too close. I want a huge tonal palette and don't want to be locked in to one sound. I don't buy guitars because some guitar hero has one either.

Ibanez has a huge following as does PRS and Jackson and Epiphone.
Different guitars make you approach things differently style wise too.

Bottom line is as you get older, the fan part goes away and is taken over by which tool is best for the job. In my case it's Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, PRS, Epihone, Dano, Supro...

As is common knowledge, Fender as a company changed hands several times since Leo founded it. I guess you could say I'm a loyal Leo/George supporter as I've been playing Strats for over 40 years and quite a few of them weren't bought new. So, speaking for myself, it's more the guitar than whomever the holding company is. Besides, Fender at large is beginning to price the bulk of their American stuff out of reach of the average player just like Gibson did. And just like Gibson, the 'cheaper' American stuff which they offer, intrinsically shall not be a good buy either.

The point: To my way of thinking, loyalty is a two way street. YMMV
